October 20, 201213 yr Hi all, First time poster so hopefully this is in the right place (wasn't sure if it would be better in the SimConnect forum). I recently purchased FSX Gold via the Games for Windows Marketplace, which meant I got it as a download, not physical disks. Installed and works perfectly. I'm now wanting to add an AI Traffic Builder, and believe I need the FSX Acceleration SDK to do this. I've checked the FSX Program Files folder and cannot see an SDK sub-folder. As I don't have physical disks does anyone know how I can get the correct SDK's loaded? I think I need FSX SDK, then the FSX Acceleration SDK loaded on top. Any help appreciated, and hope this is in the right place.
October 20, 201213 yr Moderator The prerequisite for installing the FSX SDK's is to first install the FSX SDK v1.0 from your DVD#1 of the FSX Deluxe edition. The FSX Standard edition does not include the FSX SDK v1.0... If you do not have the Deluxe edition, then STOP now. You cannot go any further... See here for detailed information: http://fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=SDK_Installation_%28FSX%29 According to this Wiki entry, it is possible for those with the Acceleration DVD to install the FSX-Acceleration SDK by using the files on the DVD. Nothing however speaks to the downloadble version of Acceleration. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
October 20, 201213 yr Author I should have Deluxe though as I purchased Gold, which I thought was Deluxe + Acceleration?
October 20, 201213 yr the download off xboxlive asks you during the install if you want the sdk installed, you probably didn't see it. I have the xbox download and physical disks.
October 20, 201213 yr I also have FSX Gold from xbox live and SDK is installed (def: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK). I just can't get it to work. I tried to follow , but only got simconnect output window, no extras on menu bar. Mariusz Wrzos
October 21, 201213 yr Author As I missed it during the download (can't remember seeing it), is it accessible from the download file? I checked the GFWM download location and that folder is empty, so I can't even find the download to explore it.
October 21, 201213 yr You need to copy those files before installation. They are deleted afterwards. For the same reason I downloaded and installed FSX three times. After a few weeks of playing i remebered that SDK dialog during installation. I even remeber changing default location but I couldn't find it. I hit uninstall/change button expecting "repair" wizzard or sth but it immediately started removing files. That was painful. After second installation (download) I couldn't activate FSX. I had to clear everything and download again. All went fine this time. Before installing I copied all files into safe place. Mariusz Wrzos
October 21, 201213 yr Author Thanks, I'll backup and then re-install. I take it that I can just uninstall and then re-install through the GFW client?
October 21, 201213 yr I uninstalled it with "add/remove programs" and installed through GFW Remeber to copy files before you initiate installation. 23 cab files and "setup" folder (22GB). SDK installer is in Setup\Content\SDK (117MB) Mariusz Wrzos
October 22, 201213 yr Author Hi Marius, Thanks for the tip about copying the files. When I re-installed, I did get the SDK install screen, but it disappeared as soon as I chose to alter the install path. So, I went to the copies, extracted and installed the required SDK's and it works. Now, I just have to hit the search function to find out how to do a few bits and bobs.
