Hi, I have a couple of questions for owners of the Real Air Turbine Duke.

 

I've had the piston Duke since its release, and I love it. It's my favorite piston twin and I fly it quite often. One of the things I like about the piston Duke is I can run it with FSX SP1 only. I use SP1 because of my use of Tileproxy--SP1 just offers a smoother experience.

 

First question--is there anyone flying the Turbine Duke with just FSX SP1? Second question--which engine is modeled? I understand that there are two HP options for the real Turbine Duke. No one need sing the praises of the Real Air Turbine Duke. They are a class act, perhaps the best payware vendor I've ever purchased from. I've seen the photos of the Turbine Duke and have read the reviews and they are everything one would expect from Real Air.

I can't answer the FSX SP1 related question, but on the engine models, the reference card from Realair says 2x P&W PT6A-35.

Even if you choose to stay with FSX Sp1 (!!), be sure to get the

Turbine Duke Version 1.2 update < link

 

that came out after the plane was 1st released.

 

( Should run smoother with the update in any case)

PT6-35 turbine. 750hp derated to under 550hp. Great power to wieght ratio. If I were ever in a aposition to have a personal aircraft this would be on my shortlist. In all honesty I can't remember if it has the -34 or 35. Same hp but the -35 has a high altitude compressor meaning it can move more air into the engine, thus keeping EGT/ITT cooler and producing its 750 hp to a higher altitude. In FSX you wouldn't notice the difference. I have spoken with the company that does the conversions to turbine and it sounds like one fine machine. The RealAir Duke is a very good recreation.

I agree with Dave, must be a real jewel to run one of those for real. Versatile, powerful, beautiful.

I went ahead and purchased it, seemed a no brainer given the piston Duke discount. I was surprised to see a fps hit in the VC, like Carenado's King Air. Reason I was surprised is the piston Duke has no fps hit at all in the VC. But in the flight levels, you really can't tell a difference in fps other than when you pan around the cabin--no biggie.

 

A quick flight shows off all the handling qualities of Real Air aircraft. Very smooth rotation--just pleasant all the way around. First thing that catches one's attention is the amazing climb rate. It climbs effortlessly. I like the included liveries a lot, at least one seems to be a real life livery. My next step is to take a typical Tileproxy flight and I'll see how it goes.

 

To answer questions about FS Service pack, the aircraft works perfectly using only FSX SP1.

Took my first flight, from Napa to Reno (one of my favorite routes), and all went well. The Turbine Duke works really well when used with Tileproxy, provided the frames are locked to allow Tileproxy to stay caught up. I really enjoyed the time to climb to cruise altitude and settled on a cruise speed of 280 KTAS. Needless to say, I covered the distance to Reno in a hurry.

 

Having also just purchased Carenado's King Air, it's nice to have a choice of Tprops to enjoy. The Duke can go just about anywhere and is easier to control on final vs. the King Air. Off to try a couple more flights!
