October 24, 201213 yr Hey guys, this is my current system: 3rd Generation Intel I7-3770K 3.5 GHZ (Turbo 3.9 GHZ) Liquid Cooled by Corsair H60 16 GB DDR3 RAM 2 X 1 GB Radeon HD 7750 700 Watt PSU Windows 7 64 BIT WD 1 TB HD I have had this new PC for about a week now, frames have been pretty good in most of the heavily traffic areas, i.e KORD, KATL, KLAX, KJFK, KEWR, I was wondering if I was able to overclock to 4.3, 4.4 GHZ, how much more would frames increase? Is it worth the risk? This question is for FS2004 Thanks guys!
October 24, 201213 yr Hi D... I just finished my build - with FS9 in mind... i2700k with a Noctua fans... Runs fine at 4.5 and that's just with the default/canned over-clock settings that Gigabyte provides via their utilities... As I understand it - this may or may not - provide the optimal settings for a given clock speed... I still lock my frames at 35 in FS9 - why would you need more - and - I don't think they've ever left 35 while running the sim... Feelthere ERJ - FSDreamteam KJFK - sliders maxed - airport full of AI - maxed weather - and - it's not even breathing hard... Personally - I don't know why you would buy such high end equipment without the intention of an over-clock... That's why you are paying top dollar for it... You're right though - there is always a chance you could smoke something... Regards, Scott

October 24, 201213 yr Have you tried looking at the motherboard manual? It will explain how to get into BIOS, where you perform OCing, The two basic variables you want to be familiar with are CPU vcore and Multiplier. Since you've got a K series CPU... all you need to do is increase your multiplier to whatever you feel comfortable. Then you'll need to slowly bump up the voltage (vcore) to match the increased power needs for that overclock. Also, make sure your ram timings are set properly before OCing. You may need to set XMP profile in your RAM frequency section in BIOS. Hopefully someone with a clocked IB cpu will chime in. I've got my SB 2500k @ 4.4GHz (44x multiplier) with auto vcore (I recommend setting a fixed value but I'm not familar with your type of cpu so I don't know what's normal). Worst case scenario is your PC won't post and you'd have to reset CMOS if the overclockn fails (ie not enough voltage, incorrect memory timings etc) | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
October 24, 201213 yr I dont see any mention of your Motherboard specs. That would help immensly. Here is a link to a very easy to understand Asus 3770K OC tutorial. There are many like this by doing a search! http://www.overclock.net/t/1259495/help-with-my-3770k-overclock
October 25, 201213 yr Hi D... I'm not familiar with your board but I have the "GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB" and like my previous board - Gigabyte includes some software for neophytes - which I consider myself... I believe it's called "Easy Tune" and should have loaded from the Gigabyte disk... I'm no pro but I have over-clocked my PC's both ways - using the Gigabyte "Easy Tune" software - and - just going into the bios to change the settings... You do need to be a little careful and find some CPU core temp monitoring software... Personally - my box runs around 77 to 78 degrees C - under full load with that Russian CPU "burn in" load testing software - I can't think of the name of it... It runs much cooler when running FS9... If you start seeing temps over 80 I think you may want to shutdown and back off a bit... The Easy Tune package gives you a couple of canned settings to choose from... I usually start somewhere in the middle one and go from there... Again - I didn't want to make it sound as if you had to do this... If you can't afford to replace something that fails - maybe you don't want to over-clock... I've built only two boxes - both of them over-clocked - and - I haven't smoked any components - knock on wood - but - I try to stay pretty conservative... I've read posts where guys hit 5.0 with my CPU... Best of luck and read read read anything you can on OC... Regards, Scott
