October 30, 201213 yr Decided to get a new rig running with FSX mainly in mind, and after having a browse of the stickies on here, this is what I've conjured. I'd like to know if there's anywhere that I can improve with this rig, or any tips of reducing price without compromising performance etc. Budget is roughly ~$2000, and basically I'm hoping to get 5Ghz OC on the CPU out of this. (Is 750W enough for that?) October 31, 201213 yr Author Thanks, that's good to hear! One question though, would I be better off with a HAF X over the 500R? I know it's about $30 or so more, but is the extra air flow worth it, and will it fit the H100 OK? Or is there a better case for roughly the price of the 500R that will fit the H100? And also; does the 2500k overclock better than the 3570k? Or similarly the 2600k to the 3770k? That's the message I'm getting from a bit of reading.
October 31, 201213 yr Author Can't seem to edit the post now; Decided on 650D for the case; Question on the CPU's still stand.
October 31, 201213 yr Go with the 3570K. BTW, I think you might want to go a bit higher on the mobo... Something like the P8Z77-V or -V Pro.
October 31, 201213 yr Author OK, and what benefits does the better mobo give? I assume better overclocking capability? The mobo has always been a bit of a grey area for me, there's such a large plethora of options that I just get overwhelmed and have no idea what does which!
October 31, 201213 yr Can't seem to edit the post now; Decided on 650D for the case; Ooh you'll love that case - same one I have. One funny tip, while modular PSU's are awesome for most cases, they actually add extra wiring mess for the 650D. I noticed pictures with non modular psu means there is one tight bundle of wires coming from the psu, but you can hide all the ones you don't need behind the mobo. With the modular psu, you've got more cabling coming off the psu because it's not in a tight bunch. Here's mine (yes I was lazy with the final gpu cables not routing them through the inner panel). | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
