ASE 2012 Textures and OpusFSX

Featured Replies

Hello

I have decided to rest ASE2012 and try out the OpusFSX weather engine. I would like some advice on how to properly integrate the ASE2012 textures with OpusFSX. Since there is no "import" function in OpusFSX for cloud textures, I beleive I need to make some setting adjustments in ASE2012 to render the cloud textures but disable the weather downloading? Not exactly sure how these programs best fit so any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Hi John

Run ASE2012 if you want to load different textures.

Close down ASE2012, make sure the weather engine is disabled.

Run OpusFSX.

That should be all you need to do.

Cheryl

OPUSFSX only injects the data, the textures are rendered directly from AS2012 by FSX.

Load AS2012, load textures, close AS2012, run OPUS, you'll get your weather.

Also make sure you don't enable the AS haze and mist effects, they cause a funny banding effect. Disable those completely before loading the textures. Also check for the cloud of doom after loading the textures, a thick cloud above you that follows you around everywhere. We have a replacement bitmap for that just in case. You will find the fix in our FAQs.

You might want to download the just-released AS2012 SP2 beta for new and improved textures.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth

A bit nitpicking maybe, but textures are not 'rendered directly from AS2012 by FSX'. AS2012 installs textures into the FSX folders, replacing whatever is there (default textures, AS2012 textures, REX or FEX textures) and then FSX simply uses those textures. FSX doesn't know the textures are new or anything because there always is ONE set of of textures and all files have the exact same names as the default textures otherwise FSX can't use them!

This also means that if you only use AS2012 (or for instance REX) for textures and you like the textures you have chosen, you can install the textures and forget about AS2012 (or REX or FEX) and simply use FSX together with OpusFSX. So...run FSX and OpusFSX and that's it. There is no need to ever run AS2012 again unless you want to install new textures (or obviously of you want to use the AS weather engine again).

I use REX for textures and ONLY open the program if I want to change a texture. In fact, I could completely uninstall REX and I'd still be using the REX-textures that are installed into the FSX folders...!
