November 15, 201213 yr Which one provides more accurate weather (now thats a subjective question)? I fly on Vatsim often. When you fly on Vatsim, use Vatsim weather. It's not always the real world weather, from what I've read. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
November 15, 201213 yr I was under the impression that the VATSIM controllers get their weather data directly from available sites such as FlightAware, LiveATC or by simple Googling the airports METAR. Back when I first started VATSIM and used Squawkbox I would always get violent weather injections and S turns. Using OPUS I have found their source of data for gathering the METARS to be "instant" and ahead of the others. Can't really go wrong with ASAP weather availability. I would vote Primary. Unless you do a lot of flying that doesn't have much weather reporting capability then I would use the "use VATSIM" to fill in the gaps.
November 15, 201213 yr Commercial Member Our primary server is NOAA data. As Hook said VATSIM is not always real world weather and some of the METARs are not necessarily updated as often as NOAA but they do have METARs for some areas where NOAA is lacking, e.g. New Zealand so you can select NOAA and opt to fill in missing data with VATSIM.
