Wind gusts

Featured Replies

Does the OPUS LWE incorporate wind gusts? I flew into Oklahoma City with the winds being:

KOKC 222152Z 20018G23KT 10SM FEW180 SCT250 23/12 A2992 RMK AO2 PK WND 19026/2141 SLP122 T02330117

When I was on approach I didn't an particular sudden wind shifts. Seemed my aircraft and sim was only reacting to the 200/18.

Does wind gusts show up when using OPUS?

We do wind gusts but at the moment they are limited to the surface wind layer. We will look at implementing them elsewhere.

That's slightly what I was asking about. The destination METAR said the winds were gusting, but on approach there was no further wind interaction with the aircraft besides the base wind (everything but the gusting). By the surface layer do you mean strictly when the aircraft is on the ground?

Alrighty. Next time I do a flight into or out of someplace with gusts in the METAR I will see what happens and will report back.

Time to bring it up from 1000ft to at least 3000 ft to have some Live weather then!.

Or make it user adjustable.

Its too much on rails now..

It's on our to do list together with the 'aircraft bump' effect. Have you tried the turbulence effects in LC yet?

How high do gusting winds go? Do they persist up to the convection layer?

I was on a C172 last year with a very well developed convection layer, climbing at 1500 ft per minute at 6000 feet with a goodly load. Turbulence was pretty severe in a small plane. As soon as we got above the cloud base at 9000 feet, most of it went away. I couldn't tell how much actual gusting there was though.

I can't, using 2D only.
