Prepar3d & iPad

Featured Replies

I searched for a topic on this unsuccessfully, but I'll apologize beforehand, if this has already been brought up. There is a nifty iOS app for the iPad that gives a you a complete synchronized Cessna 172 panel called fsi C172, by Avioware. I won't post a link, because I'm not quite sure that I understand their EULA fully. But you can either Google it or find it on the Apple store. There is also a version for Android tablets. The app is designed for FSX, but it also works with XPlane. There is a free version that supports only 10 minutes of flight at a time, so I downloaded it and tried it with Prepar3d. Guess what? I works perfectly. No messing with the registry, the cfg files or using the FSX-Prepar3d conversion application to install it. You just download the network server Windows app from the Avioware website and it links up the iPad panel with Prepar3d.

The app also works with all FSX/Prepar3d aircraft, but of course, if the aircraft's in-game panel doesn't match up, it might not work perfectly. For example, a Cessna 172 airspeed indicator only shows up to a certain airspeed. Don't expect any scaling, etc.. A faster plane will pin the meter.

I should add that I am using a 3rd generation iPad and Win 7 x64.

Also if you need very high quality flight instruments for the iPad then have a look at https://www.remoteflight.net/,I think that they are superb and I use them all the time. They also work with Prepar3d

Thanks. Also I contacted the app's author and the company has no EULA restriction on using it with Prepar3d.

I downloaded the free version of RF COCKPIT and you guys are right, it is much better, just because you can rearrange the gauges on the panel. You can also buy more gauges as an in-app purchase. The other advantage is that one PC-based server app will drive not only the iPad panel app, but also the RF RADIO HD, the RF MAP HD and other apps simultaneously. Too bad RF doesn't make a Garmin app. The ones that are out there are too flaky to use.

The optional gauges can be bought in a bundle, so overall, it's not that expensive either. I put my iPad on top of my Saitek Yoke for GA flying. Really cool!

Also do not forget the RF Autopilot for the iPhone, works so well with the iPad apps:-)
