July 27, 200421 yr Hello Gang!As you can see in my attached screenshot, I am experiencing a peculiar problem with my KOKC airport. This is the default airport, with no sceneries added. I am using the USA terrain mesh files from an author that released the entire USA but the files were taken out of AVSIM for some reason (forgot the author's name, along with USA Roads. I have utilized two different AFCAD files available for this airport, one in Flightsim.com and another from PAI and both show the same problem. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks for any help!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/85702.jpgSincerely,Dennis D. Mullert Sincerely, Dennis D. Müllert System Specs: MoBo: MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi ATX AM5. July 27, 200421 yr I made a flatten bgl file for this problem. Email me and I'll send you the bgl to put in your scenery folder. This is for fs9.
July 27, 200421 yr It's probably for the best that this author's name go unmentioned. ;-) I know the mesh and am not sure that it alone is the problem. In the scenery library, bump your AFCAD files above/below these mesh files in priority opposite what you have now. I don't know if you've tried this or not, and I'm not sure this will even work, but it's worth a shot and can be reversed. If you want to be sure to back up your original scenery library priorities, just make a copy of your scenery.cfg in the root FS2004 folder and restore it if something grisly happens.Hope this helps,KevinEDIT: Oops. Nevermind. :-)
July 27, 200421 yr That screen shot should be all the proof requird to remove that author's terrain mesh. While he created a prolific amount of mesh in a short period of time, much of it was very buggy... as that screenie shows.Justin at FSGenesis and Ray at FSFreeware have both recently released top quality mesh that is freeware and of far better quality. To top it all off, their free mesh is LOD10 (38M) versus the buggy mesh at LOD9 (76M).So the decision to replace the bad stuff with one of the better quality (and higher res) choices is really easy.Regards,Greg
July 28, 200421 yr Hey John! Thanks for your willingness to help!I'd really appreciate if you could send me your fix to: [email protected]! I've tried several terrain mesh files and the same problem occurrs, which leads me to believe that the problem is not associated with any terrain mesh files out there because it even happens with the "out of the box" terrain. Thanks again!Sincerely,Dennis D. July 28, 200421 yr Hmm... OK, Dennis, now this is getting interesting.I flew over OKC after your original post yesterday to check it out. Everything looked fine on my system. So I'm wondering what type of rig you're running? Have you always had this problem? Have you tried different video drivers? Thanks,Greg
July 28, 200421 yr Greg, don't fly over KOKC as it looks okay from the air (at least on my system). It's when you land on a runway (it happens on most runways for me) that the hills and grass appear. I've been looking for a fix too as I like to fly in/out of KOKC. I also installed Justin Tyme's Extreme Landscapes and it doesn't help. A flatten switch is the only answer I believe. I even went into the AFCADs for KOKC and raised the elevation of the airport and that helped some but then the runways look like they're hanging in the air. Jim Young
July 28, 200421 yr Hi Jim,I guess I should have been clearer... I did do some TNG's at OKC. I just went back and did it again (the old expression that a pic=1000 words :-) )35Rhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/85845.jpg17R (Almost got ran over by a King Air. LOL)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/85846.jpg13http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/85847.jpgI use Justin's Mesh and Landclass. What video card and drivers are you using?Greg
July 28, 200421 yr Might this be another problem atttributed to terrain mesh by Rob Gainer? if you have any, delete it.Sherm
July 28, 200421 yr Hi Greg!I have a P4 2.6, 1GB of Dual Channel Ram, and an Nvidia GeForce FX 5800 128MB of video Ram. I deleted Rob Gainer's mesh and installed the ones by Raymondo Taburet and the problem persists.Sincerely,Dennis D. Mullert Sincerely, Dennis D. July 29, 200421 yr Hi Greg! Thanks for the visual proof! I had an Intel 2.2 gig system with 1 gig of RDRAM and a NVIDIA FX5900 Ultra w/256 megs of memory. Okay, I said "had" because I just bought a new system and reinstalled FS2K4. The runways are perfect and no hills or grass can be seen on them. Sorry, I should have checked the scenery out on the new system before sending my earlier post. My new system is the Dell Generation 3 System (Dimension XPS P4 at 3.6 GHz w/HT; one gig of DDR2 SDRAM; and a 256MB PCI Express Radeon X800 XT video card). It rocks! Thanks again.Jim Young
July 29, 200421 yr Hi Dennis,Did this problem just start for you? Is this the first time you've flown at KOKC (these tests were the first time for me :-) ). Have you recently changed video drivers?I remember this goofiness in FS2002, but I changed over to ATI almost 18 months ago and haven't seen the problem since.Perahps a driver reinstall is in order just to make sure something hasn't been corrupted within them.Good luck,Greg
July 29, 200421 yr Hi Jim,Well, that certainly is a thorough way of testing! Buy a new (and different) system a place it next to the old!! :-). The new system looks like it will take no prisoners... congrats.Greg
July 29, 200421 yr Author Just uploaded my KOKC flatten bgl to Avsim under 2004 miscellaneous files. My problem was 17L/35R. I think the cross runway might have had a couple, but 17L had many. Hope this helps. John K
