I've been running Deluxe SP2 for a long while now with lots of addons, payware and freeware. It all runs and works to my satisfaction.

 

I'd like to install the Acceleration Expansion Pack that I recently bought but am very worried lots of addons and tweaks will get messed up or not work afterward.

 

Is there a recommended procedure to minimize damage that may be done with installing Accel Pack over mod'ed Deluxe?

Did it a while ago, removed SP2 & UTE/X, install Acc.+ UTE/X, your fsx.cfg will be renewed , so back up, or like I did, just run the bojote's tweaking tool again. I never had any problems associated with it.

My way is a little more work but safer than any other I have found. First I go into FSX and rename or move the FSX.EXE file, this is so when you put the new Acceleration version DVD in to install it won't find a currently installed fsx.cfg. Now rename the current FSX folder to something else like OLDFSX. This essentially hides the installation from the new DVD version you will install. Now make sure that your "Folder Options, advanced settings, view tab" shows that you have "show hidden files,folders, and drives" checked. Now go to your configuration folder, mine is at this location "C:\Users\Norm\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX." now copy the entire FSX folder and save it under another name for future use. Unless I missed something you should be ready to install Acceleration. After Acceleration is installed then you can just transfer the files you want from the old version into the new one. Some addons may not work properlly and may need to be reinstalled but I never had that problem because they are already in the registry and the paths are all the same as before as long as you made sure that the new version has the same folder name as the original. Arg. As expected the install didn't go well. Or I should say, Accel installed fine but tons of my smaller addon scenery is now not showing up. This is gonna take hours to check and reinstall everything. PITA.
