Friend Asked A Good Question, What To Purchase

Featured Replies

Hi,

I made the jump directly to a couple 690's in my setup so I'm not sure of the answer. I have a friend that asked a good question and I'm not sure of the answer. I'm learning toward telling him to get two 680 cards with 4GB memory (each) for a total of 8GB over one 690 with 4GB. My reason being he wants to run the Bufferpools tweak and send data directly to the GPU.

What would be the better buy for P3D?.

1-GTX690 with 4GB

or

2-GTX680 with 8GB

8GB of VRAM is 100% overkill.... It doesn't even matter if you have 3 screens...

Keep in mind that in SLI the VRAM is mirrored for the most across each card, so you don't really get twice the VRAM in dual SLI for example.

So a GTX690 has 2x2GB which is effectively... 2GB!!

Just like a 2 x GTX680 4GB SLI has about 4GB available

Hi,

Well, he decided on one EVGA GTX690. He should have it in about a week, ordered from Best Buy. He's upgrading from a GTX480, so I think he will be happy.
