Featured Replies

Hi,I read in some CTD threads about the "German patch". What does it do and where can I find it? And also important, did it help to get rid of these awfull CTD's?Thanx,

there is no patch and never will be most likely.Just restart FS and go elsewhere or elsewhen.

>there is no patch and never will be most likely.>Just restart FS and go elsewhere or elsewhen.OMG. What utter BS. Jeroen that is about the silliest thing I have ever seen you post. The german patch is a patch that was made by a german fellow (suprise eh?) that reduces (and for most people, eliminates) seasonal CTDs. I don't have the link but I am sure someone can provide you with the link.

It's here :http://jobia.bei.t-online.de/crashdes.htmIt's in German, but you just have to download crashto.zip and install the texture files to the main FS texture directory. The second file (terrain.zip) contains the terrain.cfg, to be installed in the FS main directory (backup your existing terrain.cfg before)The patch deals with CTDs caused by any Addon Mesh and Addon Landclass. And yes, it really works, I didn't have any CTD since then.Michael

>>"Jeroen that is about the silliest thing I have ever seen you>post.">>If thats the case then you've missed a few Fred LOL. Someone>should start collecting them and write a book!DavidLOL yea, a book of his quotes would be rather funny. Reason I said it was the silliest thing I have ever heard him say is because he blatently lied this time...in the past he has just offered adbrasive and unhelpful comments.

The "german patch" was an early attempt to stop seasonal CTD's. I have found that the installation instructions being in german, are a bit hard to read, and quite frankly, I find the following work around to be every bit as effective and much easier to implement. In your FS9 directory, there is a file called terrain.cfg. There is a line called, "maskclassmap=" and a numeric value, 0 1 or 2. Simply replace each value with a value of 0. It's very easy with notepad because you can do a "find and replace" on maskclassmap=1 and maskclassmap=2.The only thing I have seen missing, are the "simulated" clear cut areas beneath high tension lines, and I believe the "patch" has the same side effect. This has eliminated all my CTD's. And should you ever need to get back to original terrain.cfg. It's on CD1 and can be easily copied over.Hope this helps.

That's NOT a patch, that's a CRACK.Only the original developers can release a patch, and that's Microsoft.

"That's NOT a patch, that's a CRACK.Only the original developers can release a patch, and that's Microsoft."Jeroen,I've been too sick to participate in the forums this week, but I'll make an exception in this case. That comment is the finest example of what a crock your "holier than thou, I am a developer, I know the definition of a patch" is.A "crack" is an attempt to break a program, or otherwise defeat copy protection. A patch is an attempt to repair something that is not working correctly. NOWHERE is it written that a patch must come from the developer. If I mentioned that in my shop, it would get a good laugh as it's something a Jr. programmer might say if he/she were reading from the notes of some lecture received in "Development 101" by a professor that should have retired in the 60's.I live in a shop where every day we patch a product that we did not develop. Not only do we have the source, but in our case and the case of MSFS, source isn't limited to code. It includes all the components that make our product tick--from ini files, to reg files, to .bat files, and so on.You may continue to live by your textbook definitions of what's a patch, crack, upgrade, enhancement, and so forth. But save it for another thread since you obviously weren't here to help. I know you score points with the circles you swim in for your snide remarks in this forum. It's a tribute to the tolerance shown here that you're allowed to stay around.I could say your comments simply make me sick--but I already am--so I can't blame you for that one :)-John

Jeroen,You may want to do both "fixes" for the now infamous "seasonal" CTD.The "German" fix essentially turns the ground underneath the airport into a single texture (removing the blending with the local textures). This blending proves a problem sometimes--especially when there is partial snow cover on the ground. The "maskclass" fix seems to come (indirectly) from the MS team. It is a simpler (and less drastic) fix. However, there are instances when only the "German" fix will do the job. So as the guys here suggest, you might try both fixes to see if you can produce a more robust protection against the dreaded CTD.Best,Mike
