December 18, 201213 yr Hi! Firstly, english isn't my native language so sorry about terrible language Secondly, not exactly CTD but close enough - I think. My sim has heavy custom AI with 1600+ traffic files and even more aircraft's. Previously I linked traffic to FSX from FS9 folders but now I'm moving to FSX only setup. Part of the progress I migrated my traffic to newer sim, but after moving traffic files I started to have a mysterious problem. My FSX does not load past splash screen on start-up. So far I reinstalled FSX and now I only have the traffic files and AI aircraft's added to install fresh setup. I've narrowed the problem down to number of traffic files and aircraft folders. When I divided the AI aircraft's into two folders sim will start if I have one or two traffic files added but when I try to activate them all it stays in the splash screen. I followed the start-up progress on Procmon.exe and it shows that after a while the sim starts threat create -threat exit loop that never ends. I've attached a screenshot from end result. Besides complete reinstall I've tried to delete the logbook file, scenry.cfg and FSX.cfg. I've also tried the traffic files in Addon folder and Scenery/World/Scenery folder. Also I've tried whit the traffic in FS9 and FSX format. Operating system is 64bit Win7 and underneath is Radeon 6950 and AMD Phenom II X4 810 whit 4GB's worth of RAM. Simulator has E drive for itself. Does anyone by change have heard anything similar?
December 18, 201213 yr If fsx does not startup properly, it is most likely the fact you do not have Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2005 and 2005 with SP1 installed. Check your Add/Remove program to check. I do not see anything in the Process Monitor that is causing your crash. The Name Not Found entry is normal but indicates there is no flight plan named 'flight override' located on your system and there is no .CAB program installed. That's normal but it is strange that it was looking for those files as they don't exist anywhere in a normal FSX install. You might have some old fsx installation stuff with new fsx stuff installed. Unfortunately many people do not uninstall and reinstall fsx correctly and sometimes people use the fsx.cfg they had in the previous install and import it to the new install. This creates major, major problems most of the time. I like the procedures put out by PMDG for uninstalling and reinstalling FSX - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx but I would add you should run a freeware registry cleaner like CCleaner before reinstalling. I've tried to delete the logbook file, scenry.cfg and FSX.cfg. The scenery.cfg should never be uninstalled especially the one located in the same folder as the FSX.cfg. That is not the working version of the scenery.cfg. The working version is located in the C:\Program Data\Microsoft\FSX folder. It should not be deleted either as it is not like the FSX.cfg and rebuilds inself after being deleted. I divided the AI aircraft's into two folders sim will start if I have one or two traffic files added but when I try to activate them all it stays in the splash screen. I have no input regarding your AI and traffic files. I simply cannot understand why you have one or two traffic files and then divide AI aircraft into two folders. FSX wasn't developed to process what you are trying to do. The AI traffic files should be in your scenery/world/scenery folder. You can have some in the AddonScenery/scenery folder too but that's getting way too complicated. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! December 18, 201213 yr Author Thanks for your replay Jim! C++ Redistributables 2005 and SP1 are present. The sim starst if I have only one or two traffic files in scenery/world/scenery folder and max 380 airplanes in one folder. I f I try to add all it does not start. I have divided AI airplanes to two folders because that was the only way to get the sim to start up and load them. If I had all 354 airplane folders and around 18,000 texture folders in same airplane folder sim simply won't start. Same thing with traffic files, only the sim will load only one or two. If I have more in scenery folders the sim gives up. I also tried to have all planes in Airplanes folder and all traffic in scenery/world/scenery folder. That link you gave was nice! I have pretty much followed it uninstalling the FSX but not in installing. My PC is due for update after the holidays and that means formatting whole thing after good backups so maybe that will help. -Mikko
January 19, 201313 yr Author Little situation update. Now I have formatted all my hard drives and installed everything from Windows 7 down again. To FSX I only added traffic files and AI aircrafts from backup. I still have trouble starting FSX if more than 250 traffic files are activated. However I found out occasionally the sim gets out of memory errors so there is possibility for corrupted files. (8GB's worth of ram and sim drive has over 200GB free)
January 19, 201313 yr I found out occasionally the sim gets out of memory errors so there is possibility for corrupted files. OOM's in 64 bit OS's are rare but, in the FSX Forum and in a discussion regarding the release of FSDT CYVR (Vancouver), many discussed OOM problems after installing it. I think the bottom line was the settings were too high for that particular scenery. FSDT has since made it possible to install lower resolution textures so that the persons can still have their settings set high (probably to the extreme) and still fly into Vancouver. So, bottom line, think you have your settings set too high. Of course, there could also be problems with your system memory setup in the BIOS and/or your do not have enough memory. FSX, in a 64 bit environment can 'see' up to 4 GB's' of memory and the rest of the memory is used for OS system requirements. In your OP you indicated you only had 4GB's of RAM and now you indicate you have 8GB's. If you only have 4GB's, it can only see up to about 3GB's of memory so that the system can use the rest of the memory to keep it going. If you put in 8 GB's of memory (like me), you should have little or no problems with memory but OOM's can still happen if the memory is not properly configured. By that I mean the frequency, timings, and voltage must be right and one of the memory profiles shown in the CPU-Z utility under the SPD tab. If your memory is not in one of those configurations, you will have problems.... not right away necessarily but maybe a month or two later or sporadically. A corrupted file will also cause a crash but, if you just reinstalled Windows and FSX, it's hard to envision a corrupted file unless you just ported most of your FSX installation over to the new Windows 7 installation. In that case you will have major problems. I still have trouble starting FSX if more than 250 traffic files are activated. This is probably telling you something about your fsx settings, especially aircraft settings are set too high. With your settings set high, everything gets activated and this is not what you want to have happening with ANY AI program. A setting of 30-40% works the best. In your area of flight, 100% of the flights will still occur eventually (you sometimes have to wait until the flight plans kick in and more and more AI arrive in the area). This will eventually populate a large airport such as KLAX/KSFO. To pinpoint the possible file corruption or problem you will need to disable your AI by renaming your AI traffic bgl's in the World/Scenery/Scenery folder. If FSX performs properly, you have found your problem. If you continue to get crashes, then it is something else. I also recommend disabling your addon scenery in the Scenery Library, run FSX and see if the problem is fixed, then begin activating 3 or 4 sceneries at a time until the problem starts recurring again. To investigate your problem further, you should download and run AppCrashView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html. It will show you all your crashes since installing Windows 7. Perhaps the crash report will tell you something. You can also look in your Event Viewer to see all of the events surrounding your crash(es). You can get to the Event Viewer by clicking on the Start button, typing Event in the search bar then looking up in the Menu and then clicking on Event Viewer. Once open, look in the sidebar for Custom Views>Administrative Events. This will give you a look at all the logs together in one place and maybe your see a problem with your HDD or memory or a Windows Service. These added problems could be causing your issues with FSX crashing. Hope this helps. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! January 21, 201313 yr Author Hi Jim and thanks again! In holidays I updated my system with new motherboard and CPU, ands doubled the RAM memory. I'm now sure the problem is corrupted traffic files as without them sim works fine.
January 26, 201313 yr Author Now my sim works like dream. I'd like to thank you Jim for your patience and superb help! Bottom line problem was corrupted conversion of traffic files from FS9 format to FSX format.
January 26, 201313 yr Now my sim works like dream. Great news! Glad you got it figured out and thanks for posting your solution. Let's hope you won't have any more problems like this and you can enjoy FSX. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource!
