Paint Problem

Featured Replies

Hi there,

i still have a problem with my own repaint of a 737-800 NGX WL.

In Photoshop it looks like attached picture number 1.

In FSX = picture number 2. You can see the blue line is not correct. How can i fix it?

(sry for my bad english)

Regard,

Andi

Was it on your fuselage master?

Andi,

welcome to the lovely world of painting the PMDG 737 NGX .

The above mentioned problem has to do with the way PMDG went for the mapping of the textures. The advantage is that you can you do a few fanzy things like webtitles on the belly, registrations above the cockpit windows or sharp curved lines at the top of bottom of the fuselage.

Due to the cylindrical shape of the fuselage textures get stretched at the top and bottom ends of the repaint if you just go for a left and right texture method. PMDG has decided to cut the fuselage into four parts: left, right, bottom and top to reduce the strechting effect resulting in the above mentioned advantages.

This makes it impossible to paint curved or skewed images on a flat image in one line/piece anymore. Therefore you have to figure out where the top resp. bottom mapping starts. Unfortunately the paintkit doesn't include that information either :(. If you have figured out the connection point for the top texture in your case, you have to draw these textures in a different perspective or angle.

This takes lots of trail and error, but it's possible. Vertical running lines are much easier to paint than curved or skewed ones .

Good luck!

The tutor I use does not have four parts ... and I personally like it better .. all one fuselage.

On a sidenote, I wasn't talking about the three fuselage segments by the way.

I like the way PMDG has created the paintkit for the NGX, but they could have provided some assistance for areas where the textures change - i.e. side to the top or bottom. And it would have been nice to have a more logical approach to these areas.

If you draw a square on the left side of the fuselage it would have been nice to simply extend that square to the bottom. The way the NGX is textured now you have to move the square at the bottom a few pixels to the right so that it matches on the 3D model later. Well...too late to change that.

hmmm, first thank you very much for your help. it sounds like lot of more work for me now. it will be funny to make these lines correct without any points where the top of the fuselage starts and what for perspective or angle i have to use :(

but i will try

Regard,

Andi
