December 23, 201213 yr Hello, I use opus since two months. I'm now on version 2.71.0 I got a very annoying issue that began with the GRIB option. I always get same wind direction and speed at departure airport and destination airport. I first thought it was coincidence but now I'm sure it can't be. Is anyone having the same issue ? Thanks. December 23, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi Are you entering your destination ICAO code and updating the weather in the dialog prior to your flight? Is the weather updating - you can see this in the weather report window. What are the actual METARs for your source and destination airfield as seen in the opusweather.txt file or the spy window? Regards Cheryl
December 31, 201213 yr Commercial Member Firstly, upgrade to the latest release 2.80, this version also sets lower altitude targets to assist your sim during the climb and descent. Also helping it to recover the stabilised surface winds. the reason why you are getting static surface winds is you have the Wind Stabilisation option enabled and either didn't climb above FL200 or the LWE was unable to recover them. If you are going to fly above FL200 then set all the defaults and enable the GRIB Forecast option + Sim Friendly GRIB Winds + Wind Stabilisation. With 2.80 you can also set the Stabilised GRIB Data option, but only if your system suffers from wind shifts whilst in the cruise due to changing upper wind forecasted targets (make sure you have disabled the FSX Aircraft stress causes damage option). If you fly low level then just set all the defaults. Also make sure you always specify your destination and alternates (or other sites of interest) within the weather dialog. In 2.80 you can also specify your intended cruise altitude which helps the LWE decide how to adjust the upper targets for the Sim Friendly option. Make sure you use the new Lower Atmosphere, Upper Atmosphere, Destination and Alternate Weather Reports. Not only will they help in entering your FMC data, usually before reaching the TOD, but they provide perfect 100% accurate ATIS from over 300 miles away (helping you plan your descent and approach). Do NOT rely on any third-party ATIS program, especially any program or procedure that relies on FSX and SimConnect to provide long range ATIS. None of these procedures will give accurate weather. FSX just does not work that way with our method of weather updating, also our LWE contains more than 6 times the amount of weather data that the sim can handle for each small weather cell. Use the Opus weather reports, they are totally accurate. Note, both the real surface wind and the stabilised (current static) surface wind is displayed, along with the current temp and wind targets, the current ambient temp and calculated TAT within the sim.
