December 23, 201213 yr I have looked thru the forums and may have missed this, but I am running windows vista, and have used RCV for several years, it seems to work fine for a long time then I start to get a message, after I load the flight, that RCV is closing and windows is searching for a solution. It takes any where from about 4 seconds to 20 seconds for this to occur after I have put the flight plan in and then go back into FS2004 to start my flight. Thanks for any help

December 23, 201213 yr Here's the usual trouble shooting scenario: As always, be sure FSUIPC is current and WideFS if you are using a network, RC4 is excluded from security applications, etc. Be sure you are starting RC4 with a shortcut and it has run as admin in its properties. Make sure your makerwys.exe is current. Start RC and run a scenery rebuild, then restart RC. Has the flight plan file (FSX or FS9 format) been loaded and accepted by RC? Next start FS and load a flight, parked with avionics running. A default aircraft for troubleshooting is best. Don't run any other add-ons at this time such as weather apps, crew simulation apps, etc. Try a default airport. We want to consume as little resources as possible. When you press the start button for RC does the RC/FSUIPC win come up in the FS view OK? Does it stay up? Go through part of the procedure through where it usually fails. If it does. Repeat the process but right after starting RC and before loading the plan click the debug button and continue until you get the failure. At that point alt-tab to see if you get any hidden error messages. Also note if RC is attempting to move your aircraft when it starts. If so that can be a scenery data or flight plan data error with an invalid or mismatched set of coordinates. In your RC4 folder the is a file called rc4.log. Rename that to something exclusive keeping the .log extension so it does not get overwritten. The instructions for sending it in are pinned at the forum head. Also if you go into the Win control panel admin services you can pull up the event viewer and see what Win errors have been recorded regarding RC. If you don't get a failure then you can redo the procedures adding in your weather app and see if that results in a problem. Then try an advanced aircraft. A good check also is to insure your C: drive and if different your selected Win temp/swap drives have plenty of empty space. Since you are on VISTA, you should have probably at least 4 GB of non-shared RAM installed (where installed RAM is not shared for video use). Test to see if the error is scenery/airport or flight plan specific.
