December 23, 201213 yr As can be read elsewhere I had some problems with the PFD and ND looking odd. Turns out that was due to the IRS information not being entered in the FMC because the option simply isn't there. Normally after turning on the IRS I can go to the FMC > POS INIT and then LSK the GPS data from the 2nd page to the 1st page at POSITION. But since using FS2Crew the option to do that isn't there. Now I can solve this by turning the IRS off on the overhead and turning it on again but this only has an effect when I do it quite late during the entire process (like after pushback). Before I started using FS2Crew I never had this problem so I get the idea I should wait with setting the IRS to NAV until sometime later because the PO has to do something before all this works...? However, the manual clearly says I should turn IRS to NAV right after starting RUN PF! But as I said this results in the PDF and ND showing odd signs because I can't enter the IRS data in the FMC... So what is the right time to set IRS to NAV so I can copy the GPS data to POSITION at the start of all procedures? It feels odd doing this after pushback... ^_^ P.S. In the 737NGX IRS options menu I have set the startup time to 30 seconds and to NOT remember the last position. Should I set startup time to instant...? Or realistic? I usually start to enter data in the FMC when the PO is doing the walk around and by that time the IRS show 'aligned' on the overhead... but no option to enter the data in the MCDU...
December 23, 201213 yr The right time to set the IRS are as check list, one of the very first things to do. You right click the IRS switchs two times each. In realistic mode like I have them, it takes around 10 mins to a line. I have the option to know its last position on. But alway look at page 2 to see if they agree. If you set to realistic your Screens will not come alive until your IRS is a lined. You seem to be going of track with checklist if you think you have a problem with your IRS's turn the option on to make it instant a line and watch your screens. If they DON'T come alive after two right clicks each and entering the info in the POS page then you have an install problem. The only time I had a problem like this was user error and not x2 right clicking the 2 IRS switchers. You don't need to go straight to the FMC and enter there until you get to that point in checklist. I enter fuel, PAX and cargo first then goto enter POS. David Murden. December 24, 201213 yr Problem solved... The thing was that I enabled RUN PF and then immediately turned IRS to NAV... WRONG! You (of course?) have to wait to at least the BAT is on and there is power! I tested this a few times and everytime when I wait until the BAT is on and I then set IRS to NAV I do get the option to set my position in the FMC! The IRS lights on the overhead do turn on as they should btw when you set them to NAV while still without power but apparently this doesn't work well and the FMC doesn't 'see' it.
December 24, 201213 yr Jeroen I suggest like I talked about in a PM you make a "warm" state. Start the NGX in a C&D state. Connect Ground power Battery ON Ground power ON Turn all screens ON Wait till all screens are warmed up and bright. Save state as "WARM" Set as you default load. Now your cockpit will look like a change over not left over night. Start FSCrew at 30 min just like you do now. David Murden. December 24, 201213 yr I always set the IRS to NAV when the aircraft has a AC power source (besides the TRU's), that is quickly if I choose the EXT power option or a couple minutes if I go by APU. You can clearly hear when the FO connects the AC power as the fans come alive. IIRC the IRS will work when the AC source is disconnected (a TRU becomes the AC source) but alarms do sound.
