Rudder Underimpact

Featured Replies

I have recently attained rudder pedals, and am trying them out (CH Products). The only problem I see is that they don't make too much of an impact in air. I realize this is unrealistic to do, but is it possible to turn the yaw damper completely off on some more automated aircraft, such as the A320? Just because there is no way I could complete a crosswind landing or such due to the minimal impact. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

you can turn ON auto-rudder in AIRCRAFT>REALISMS. ... ... ... But then again, why not take out the NULL zones, and boost sensitivity? wouldn't that make the pedals more responsive?

If you are experiencing this on a partcular plane I'm fairly sure it means that the developers haven't done things properly. I know of no such real airplane that you should you ever have to turn the yd off in order to slip the airplane. I've seen this behavior in some of the stock airplanes as well as a number of payware planes. Unfortunately, I think the only thing you can do is step up to higher quality payware planes.

That's the thing - I have been using payware aircraft. When I turn it is just way too minimal

Well, I can't speak to the QW 757 in your signature, but I'm going to bet that you don't experience problems with this on something like the NGX, do you?

hate to break it to you.. but in truth.. "Yaw Damper" is really only used while AutoPilot is ON. If the AP is ON, there is no need for your feet to even touch the pedals. Think of the AP as the Cruise Control in your car, but it can change direction, and altitude as well as just hold the speed.

Then again, you might be able to give the rudder more effectiveness in the aircraft.cfg....

[flight_tuning]

cruise_lift_scalar = 1.0

parasite_drag_scalar = 1.0

induced_drag_scalar = 1.0

elevator_effectiveness = 1.0

aileron_effectiveness = 1.0

rudder_effectiveness = 1.0 <-------------------------- Make this a Higher Number

pitch_stability = 1.0

roll_stability = 1.0

yaw_stability = 1.0

elevator_trim_effectiveness = 1.0

aileron_trim_effectiveness = 1.0

rudder_trim_effectiveness = 1.0

Even if the A/P is off you should never touch the rudder on large aircraft unless kicking off the drift whilst flaring in a crosswind or during an engine out situation.

The rudder pedals are basically an expensive foot rest. Most high end addons simulate the rudder travel limiter with increasing airspeed.

If you did decide to apply full rudder, correct behaviour will result in the aircraft smoothly rolling over with some yaw until the aircraft becomes inverted and in a dive

Yaw damper is always on, even if the autopilot is off.

Not especially. Just in general. I will just try to get used to the rudder movement. Quite new to me.

Thanks for all of the help.
