January 3, 201313 yr Hello guys. Is it possible that my fsx can run maxed on this system (with Rex, gex, and ezdok). 4gb ddr3 ram, windows 7 ultimate 64gb, amd phenom ii x6 1045t and nvidia 9500gt? Thanks. Jonathon James
January 3, 201313 yr Welcome to AVSIM! Now, to answer your question: unfortunately, definitely not. To give you an idea of how performance-demanding FSX is, look at my computer specifications to the left. I disable many performance-heavy effects and set my scenery settings to approximately 3/4 of the maximums, yet only receive 20–25 frames/s with the PMDG B747 at FlyTampa and FSDT airports. With appropriately adjusted settings, you will definitely be able to receive good performance. (My previous computer, an Apple iMac with a Core 2 Duo E8235 and Radeon HD 2600 XT, was able to run similar add-ons at the same frame rates with adjusted settings.) But unless you upgrade all the components in that computer, you should not even aim for anything above 8 frames/s with maximum settings. I would aim for 20 frames/s with adjusted settings. To get started, consider reading about configuration and tweaking approaches by Bojote, Word Not Allowed, and NickN (boy have I been saying this a lot recently!). Also consider overclocking if you feel comfortable with doing so.
January 3, 201313 yr Author Thanks a lot for your quick response! I guess I have to reduce settings. I know about nicks guide and bojote's tweak but thanks for informing me about Word Not Allowed. As i just ordered the cpu i wanted to know if i could have maxed it out Also as I am new, did I post this in the correct forum? Thanks for your help! Jonathon James
January 3, 201313 yr You're welcome! This thread should probably be in one of the hardware forums, such as this one, but the moderators should take care of it. I just edited my previous post to include some links to resources you should read about properly configuring and tweaking FSX. You do not need to tweak, but I suggest trying it (and reverting back if necessary) to see whether you can squeeze some more performance out of your existing system. Remember, always understand what you are doing when tweaking—this way is most efficient (i.e., it results in the highest chance of quickly gaining better performance) and safest for your computer. I suggest starting with Word Not Allowed's guide, as it is comprehensive and well-written. NickN's guide is also comprehensive, but can be slightly daunting as it is difficult to read, disorganized, and long. Edited January 3, 201313 yr by zowen11
