January 6, 201313 yr I am thinking of buying the MD11 for FSX however my FSX installation is not completely reliable and will crash occasionally. I have taken the habit of saving my flights every so often so that is not a major problem provided that, upon reloading, the flight resumes correctly. So my question is: with all the complexities of the MD11 simulation, does the flight reload properly so as to allow normal resumption? With my thanks in advance. AuPif.
January 6, 201313 yr It does support reloading saves. Since it takes a few seconds to load the plane into the game, sometimes it takes a few tries because FSX is impatient. However, if you pre-load the MD11 before you load the save game it seems more reliable. So: 1. save the flight in progress 2. game crashes 3. restart FSX 4. on "Free Flight" page, load the MD11 first 5. now load your saved flight For the first few seconds inside the world, the plane will go wonky while the game systems initialize but it usually settles down and you can continue flying. The only consistent problem I get is a "Cabin Pressure" warning light that won't extinguish that is a leftover of the start-up craziness. Doesn't affect the flight otherwise. Clark Clark Janes
January 6, 201313 yr I use an autosave addon for my flights. It automatically saves the flights every couple of minutes and I don't have to think about it. I honestly can't remember where I downloaded the program but I believe I found it on avsim. I can dig around and try to find out which program it is but it has worked nicely. It's been extremely valuable! Chris B. Trane
January 6, 201313 yr The registered version of FSUIPC has an autosave function. I've also heard that by saving a flight you clear up memory that has been allocated to processes that are no longer running or have reserved memory they're no longer using. So mine is set to autosave every 600 seconds. It's enough that a stutter when it saves doesn't bother me, I clear up some memory, and I have a reasonably current saved file. +1 to what Clark said. It does save flights, but you have to be ready to disable autopilot and autothrottle quickly--map it to keys so you can do it quickly--because you probably will need to take control to stabilize things. But the law of averages says you'll be at cruise so will lots of altitude to do it. Being able to restart a flight when you're on short final is not guaranteed.
