Back into Simming- yoke/throttle
ck777 replied to ck777's topic in Hardware Controllers: Joysticks/Yokes | Throttle Quads | Rudder Pedals | Drivers etcIt is the bravo throttle and and Alpha (not lite) I had to double check pictures. thanks so much for the responses, I meant to send this last night but didn’t hit send. I think I’ll pick it up, it’s only been used a few times and will fit our needs.

Back into Simming- yoke/throttle
After 10+ years, 3 kids later, I may dabble in getting back into what used to be an obsessive hobby. My motivation is my 10 year old son who has followed in his Dads traits and LOVES planes, mostly commercial! I would really like to upgrade my very old saitek yoke/throttle. He has been using it (it’s starting to give us lots of problems) on FSX. Im able to get 2020 but not 2024 due to hardware. i really don’t want to break the bank as I’m not sure how long he will be interested and my free time is limited. I really don’t know what is out there. Honeycomb was just making an appearance when I stopped simming. He and I like flying the airliners. I love the Boeing thrustmastet yoke but really don’t want to spend the money now. Any recommendations for me to check out that is a step up from Saitek? My local Facebook marketplace has a honeycomb comb xpc and throttle for $300 in the box. thanks for any help….its nice to be back on avsim.

B744 Cockpit Visit For Grown Man
My most memorable experience in a cockpit was on a US Marine C-130 (I was not in the military) flying from Islamabad to Gilgit, Pakistan on a sunny day. Seeing the Hindu Kush on a sunny day and the descent and final into Gilgit was amazing. It's a very short runway, one way in and one way out. I've had the opportunity to receive cargo charter's (747, DC10, 767, MD-11, 742) and spend most of my time in the cockpit when they are on the ground. They stick around for about 60-90 minutes, so I've had plenty of time to talk the ear off the pilots. They've always been gracious and are always interested in the cargo they are bringing in, which is fairly unique, so makes for good conversation.

A 777 Challenge
Kyle, What good fun to read the original post...it's been ages since I've seen that one. It's especially nostalgic for me since I moved from DC 2 months ago. My flight sim is still in storage, so counting the days to fly in the area again. Cheers

Best airport scenery
It's great, I really like it.

Best airport scenery
I have quite a few of FSDreamteam's airports and really enjoy them, KJFK, KIAH, PHNL,, KLAX, and some others I can't remember. +1 for Flighbeams KIAD...I do a lot of real world int'l travel out of there so it's fun to choose my actual gates of arrival/departure when I sim. I also have their KDEN and KSFO..

[12DEC15] At the PMDG Sim Center- I want to fly a.....
I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad that I'm moving out of Washington, DC. Happy because my bank account won't suffer when I'm spending my weekend in Manassas, sad because it will be harder for me to get out there (although I'll be coming back to DC a lot). Manassas Airport will hold a special place in my heart during my time in DC. My wife bought me my first flight lesson there and I got to spend the afternoon checking out some old warbirds such as a B17 and B29 this past summer. The was an incredible day. Looking forward to checking out the sim when I'll be back in DC for frequent work trips. That's an expensive Uber ride

ETOPS/Fuel Question
Kyle -That was a very thoughtful and great post. Thanks for taking the time.

Has this forum slowed down or is it just me?
Having fought fires in the PNW for many years...they've always been there. Just some years don't make the news that much. You're right, it's been really hot. I'm on the east coast now but my parents are in Oregon and it's been unusually warm where they are. But, it's not Texas hot.

Question about Failure: L ENG PRSOV VALVE
Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this and explaining in more detail! C

Question about Failure: L ENG PRSOV VALVE
I took a look at the MEL and had a question about it. This might be a silly question, so bare with me. If I'm cruising along FL390, how would I know that I received the PRSOV. Does a pilot have access to the MEL(what is below) in the flight deck or would they be communicating with Operations/Maintenance while in the air? M)(O) One valve (PRSOV) and/or the associated controller (PRSOVC) may be inoperative provided: a) Associated PRSOV is locked closed, b) Opposite engine bleed system operates normally, c) Associated engine bleed air switch remains OFF, d) Left and right bleed isolation systems operate normally, e) Center bleed isolation system operates normally, f) Both packs operate normally, g) Both outflow valves operate normally, h) Airplane remains at or below FL 350, i) APU is used as air source for center system hydraulic demand pumps for takeoff and landing, and j) Appropriate performance adjustments are applied.

Question about Failure: L ENG PRSOV VALVE
Hi Cristian, Thank you for taking the time to explain this in more detail; it's really appreciated and helpful. You are correct, I saw the L ENG PRSOV VALVE on the failures page on the FMC, not the STAT page. Thanks for the info about the MEL, I found the FAA document and will explore that a little more. My big reason to set failures is to dig deeper into the manuals and have a better understanding of the plane. I was having a little trouble with this one, so thanks for the explanation. Oh, as I was descending I got the HPSOV failure...good fun this plane is! Thanks, C

Question about Failure: L ENG PRSOV VALVE
Hey All, I was hoping to have a little help understanding the Failure L ENG PRSOV VALVE, which I just got. I've been digging around the manuals and the forum but can't seem to find the information. I came across a thread about HPSOV and Kyle made a really good statement about failures, "As far as the failure goes, remember that failures might not always be visible. The cool part of this simulation is that some failures are like icebergs. They might give a little bit of an indication from time to time on the surface (the EICAS or STAT page), but the real "danger" lies deeper. This, over time, may trigger other symptoms/failures." Is this one of those failures that would trigger another symptom/failure? I'm thinking "yes" since I just got a BLEED OFF ENGL, even though it's on. Since I'm flying happily at FL390, what happens now with this kind of indication? I thought I read somewhere it can effect the reverse thruster of that engine. I looked in the FCOM v2 Air systems chapter but perhaps I'm over looking or thinking this. Any insight and information would be great. Thanks! C

Flightsimcon 2015 Updates?
It was one of the best aviation experiences I've had. It was the first time I saw those aircraft out of a musuem. We waited around for FiFi to start up (think it was around 3ish), which made the hairs on my neck stand up. I have a soft spot for the B17, love the sound of the start up. But the B29 made the B17 sound like a Prius. What a great day and weekend! The Fly Over was pretty incredible on Friday, my office is next to the mall but I went down around Washington Monument to watch. It was pretty cool to see the crowds enjoying the event and having the WW2 vets around was very special.

Flightsimcon 2015 Updates?
That is too funny and I had a good laugh at that one! Being that I've been in DC for 6 years and moved from Oregon (Portland and Eugene) I would have never thought someone would describe N. VA as crunchy I'm just giving you a hard time (East Coaster . Want to see crunchy? Go to Eugene for the Oregon Country Fair. Interesting to hear about Manassas. I was just out there a month ago to check out the B29, B17, and other aircraft that were participating for the Fly Over in DC. Yes, I even had to battle 66 on a Saturday...with traffic. Ughh...95. Thank goodness I don't have to commute on any freeway in the beltway. Sorry, I'm really off topic.

Trondheim Airport, Værnes - i will never forget you.
First landing....good question. I'm pretty sure I was also KIAD. Oh wait...that would have been the second landing, OMDB was the first.

Can't get GPU to work
That's how you do it? I'm taking my first real world flight next sunday. I've been dragging my feet to do it because as soon as take a lesson I'll have the check book out for a license. Thanks to my wife for the x-mas gift of my 1st flight lesson.

Video card upgrade
I have an EVGA and their customer support is outstanding. I've had t call them several times and they are easy to get a hold of and I believe they have 24 hrs support. About 6 months ago I was suspecting my video card was going bad but I didn't know for sure. It was only a year old and still covered under the 3 year warranty. EVGA tried to trouble shoot over the phone but they ended up sending me a brand new card, actually an upgraded one since my model isn't made anymore. I can't say enough good things about them. I have ver similar specs as your computer, you will like it. I have an EVGA and their customer support is outstanding. Check out Kyle's Tutorial 1.5 and I belive he discusses this. I won't risk paraphrasing, since I'll screw it up. Check out pg 31 http://www.precisionmanuals.com/pages/downloads/docs.html

Help with ETOP ALT: KORD-VHHH
Thanks, Dan. I've also noticed, generally speaking of course, they take southern Russia, China, route. I go to that part of the world quite a bit in real life for work, so always have fun seeing what our routing is (I go out of IAD). A few months ago I went KIAD to ZBAA and we went a similiar route and came over Mongolia. Channel 9 was on the whole way...it was very quiet over Mongolia. Actually, my final destination was Ulan Bataar...wish they could have opened the doors for me to let me off. I'll have to do this on Vatsim some time. I'm actually on right now and noticed someone doing UA896.

VATSIM : Is it that Crowded every Sunday evening?
Yeah...during Sandy I was looking out the window of my house watching the rain go sideways and flying into IAD. I then popped up to JFK. It was pretty ridiculous but loads of fun.

Help with ETOP ALT: KORD-VHHH
You absolutely correct. If using 330, looks like PANC will cover it. I'll do some more messing around with different airports, kind of an interesting route to play around with. Cheers

VATSIM : Is it that Crowded every Sunday evening?
I flew into KORD yesterday and it was pretty busy. I saw 5 aircraft parked at the C gates, which suprised me. I also think when the weather isn't that great it draws people. KORD was getting snow, which did make it fun.
