Back into Simming- yoke/throttle

Featured Replies

After 10+ years, 3 kids later, I may dabble in getting back into what used to be an obsessive hobby.  My motivation is my 10 year old son who has followed in his Dads traits and LOVES planes, mostly commercial!

I would really like to upgrade my very old saitek yoke/throttle.  He has been using it (it’s starting to give us lots of problems) on FSX.  Im able to get 2020 but not 2024 due to hardware.

i really don’t want to break the bank as I’m not sure how long he will be interested and my free time is limited.

I really don’t know what is out there.  Honeycomb was just making an appearance when I stopped simming.

He and I like flying the airliners.  I love the Boeing thrustmastet yoke but really don’t want to spend the money now.

Any recommendations for me to check out that is a step up from Saitek?  My local Facebook marketplace has a honeycomb comb xpc and throttle for $300 in the box.

thanks for any help….its nice to be back on avsim.

I’ve gone thru many Yokes over the decades, currently have the Thrustmaster Boeing yoke.  It’s good as a Yoke, but the right side hat has gone south (starts to drift) after only 5 months or so … so I attached a Xbox controller to the yoke (use for camera system).

VF Yokes are excellent, but expensive.

I don’t have any recommendations in your price point, but one feature I would look for in a Yoke is fore and aft travel, the more travel the better (provide for more accuracy).

The Turtle Beach Velocity looks interesting, but I have no experience with it.

The Honeycomb Alpha is a good step up from Saitek. At $300 for both the Alpha and (I assume) the Bravo throttle it sounds like great value. (Also worth noting the XPC is the 'deluxe' version, with contactless sensors and XBox compatibility.) I would not recommend the new Alpha LITE yoke, which feels very notchy in the pitch. The original Alpha was more uniform.

It is the bravo throttle and and Alpha (not lite)  I had to double check pictures.

thanks so much for the responses, I meant to send this last night but didn’t hit send.  I think I’ll pick it up, it’s only been used a few times and will fit our needs.
