Can't get GPU to work

Featured Replies

Greetings all,

I'm finally getting back to sim flying after taking a while off due to r/w issues. I'm relearning the 777 right now. I can't remember how to set up the GPU to provide power in lieu of the APU. I'm starting off in a cold and dark cockpit ((just for practice), and under PMDG options I see the choice of "single" and "double" pin connections. However, the actual GPU doesn't seem to appear, and the external power button on the overhead panel isn't doing anything, Obviously I'm missing a step. Any solutions?

Thanks,

Ron

The manual is your friend! Seriously though, I don't know - I always use the APU when starting from cold and dark. I have never used the GPU.

You have to set the chocks first, then you can connect the GPU. Of course you can use the APU instead, but in reality this usage Is limited due to noise limits and fuel costs.

The chocks are being set. I then have the option of single or dual plugs. However, neither seem to do anything. I'm probably missing a simple step. Checked the manual, but couldn't find anything there.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but after connecting the plugs, shouldn't the "ext power" buttons in the overhead be lit up, indication that power is available?

After connecting the jetway dual plug electrical, turn on the power with the two overhead switches.  Yes, the AVAIL should light up after connecting the ground power.  Try loading the short turnaround panel state, that resets the aircraft to the ground power state and from there you can see what normal conditions look like on the electrical synoptic.

In order for GPU power to happen you need to turn in on. After wheel chocks are on, look under where you select 1 or 2 plugs. The option under it is what needs to be turned on in order for GPU power to come on line.

If your starting from cold  and dark   state make sure you turn your battery on first

The GPU has two options in the FMC, one to select the type of plugs, and another below it to actually connect it.

Then you will see AVAIL on overhead.

Hey guys,

Everything's ok now. I thought I had done everything correctly earlier, but must have missed a step. And the re-learning curve begins!!

Your call sign is familiar, welcome back Ron.  You're in for months of pure enjoyment in learning about the T7, I started 18 mos ago in beta and am still learning about her. Added PFPX/TOPCAT to the library for long range ETOPS flights and that opened a whole new world to be immersed in.  Happy contrails.

Welcome back Ron. Luckily it's all like riding a bike again when you get it all figured out. I'll be going back up in the real world starting in February after not having flown a plane myself since 31 Dec 2013. I feel like I'll be in the same boat for a few minutes.

Hey look who's back from Munich. I lived in Germany for four years a lifetime ago, sure miss the food and beer. So, after four years abroad I got checked out in an Arrow at the Offutt AFB Aero Club and OMG I was rusty but some things you never forget:  Push the yoke forward and houses get bigger... pull yoke back and houses get smaller.  Be safe.

That's how you do it? :)

I'm taking my first real world flight next sunday.  I've been dragging my feet to do it because as soon as take a lesson I'll have the check book out for a license.  Thanks to my wife for the x-mas gift of my 1st flight lesson.

That is a wonderful gift. I still remember my first flight and that was over 40 yrs ago, hell I don't remember what I had for lunch yesterday.  I was a motorcyclist and had a problem with throttle in the beginning... motorcycle rotate right hand forward (counterclockwise) to go; airplane push throttle forward to go... LOL.
