Freeze at RAF Cranwell

Featured Replies

HI, I had this problem years ago when I was running on my old computer with Windows XP Home. I did cure it but have forgotten what I did!

At present if I fly towards RAF Cranwell from any direction I get a computer freeze with the Error table showing:-

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

Application Name: fs9.exe

Application Version: 9.1.0.40901

Application Timestamp: 4135a208

Fault Module Name: TERRAIN.DLL

Fault Module Version: 9.1.0.40901

Exception Code: c0000005

Exception Offset: 000146c8

OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3

Locale ID: 2057

I have also done the following:-

Removed afcads for EGYD and EGYE---------------------Freeze

Removed airfields-----------------------------------------------Freeze

Checked AgenT files 010331311211301.su--------------Freeze

Checked and removed duplicate mesh files------------------Freeze

Isolated Mesh files individually-----------------------------------Freeze

On loading flight at 76% "adjusting scenery objects"-------Freeze

Isolated Generic and Static Object Scenery-------------------Freeze

I can fly around the airfield with no problem but approaching the airfield boundary causes the computer to freeze. My computer specs. are:-

Intel i5-2500

MSI 277A-G45 M/B

8GB Ram

Nvidea GeForce GTX550TI

500GB Hybrid SSD Hard drive (main), secondary 500GB HDD

OCZ 750 watt PSU

Coolmaster DM-690 case

Logitech Mk260 wireless keyboard and mouse

Windows 7 Home 64bit

I have all the UK VFR Photographic scenery installed and have isolated all the terrain mesh files in turn with no cure. The wife says " Well, don't go to Cranwell then" but that does'nt sort the problem ,does it? I have also trawlled through my scenery files for corrupt data but have'nt found any so far. When my old hard drive failed last year I had to re-load all my FS9 again into my new rig ,so I obviously loaded this fault into it unwittingly knowing it was still hidden somewhere.

Any ideas?

This is probably a long shot, but maybe worth a look. Have you tried it with AI traffic disabled? It might be a corrupted traffic file.....

I have isolated all AI traffic files associated with Cranwell and Barkston Heath but the problem still exists. I will disable all traffic files and let you know.

Have isolated all AI traffic to zero % in Traffic screen, loaded a flight at RAF Cranwell EGYD and I got a Freeze with "Microsoft Flight Simulator has stopped working" at 86% loading scenery objects.

Isolated all Traffic files to a backup folder except Just Flights British Airports traffic files where EGYD is set to 100% and still the same ------freezes at 86% loading scenery objects. So its a corrupt .bgl file but where???

Which RAF airport addons do you have? I have UK2000 RAF South, all the ACG sceneries, some UKMIL etc. If there are some likely candidates, I would be willing to play around with them and see if I can identifiy some possible culprits. I'm no expert - but have been able to find problem files in the past with some detective work and a lot of wasted time! :-) I don't start work again until the new semester next week, so I have some extra time right now\

Cheers

Well, Ian, looks like the re-vamp to the forum has killed off our last three posts and I can't access your PM in my e-mail box because I have'nt permission to do so from the administrators!!! If thats not bad enough, every time I go to close a tab now Firefox crashes and I have to re-start it afresh!

Ho Hum, Winter Blues!!

Nigel

Isn't progress a wonderful thing? :( I just sent you a PM - hopefully you will get it

Cheers

:( Still got this mysterious freeze at RAF Cranwell>

Have done the following:-

Within one mile radius of RAF Cranwell including RAF Barkston Heath (EGYD EGYE)

Removed afcads-------------------------------------------------------Freeze

removed airfields-----------------------------------------------------Freeze

Checked AgenT files 010331311211301.su--------------Freeze

Checked and removed duplicate mesh files------------------Freeze

Isolated Mesh files individually-----------------------------------Freeze

On loading flight at 86% "adjusting scenery objects"----Freeze

Isolated Generic, Static Object Scenery------------------------Freeze

Isolated all traffic files,-----------------------------------------------Freeze "Microsoft Flight Simulator has stopped working" at 86% loading scenery objects

Re-order mesh laters in Scenery.cfg-----------------------------Freeze

Placed Default Scenery higher in Scenery.cfg-----------------Freeze

As far as I'm aware a TERRAIN.DLL failure is caused by a faulty mesh file problem and I've done the process of elimination with all my mesh files but the fault is still apparent!! :excl:

Apart from not over-flying RAF Cranwell, I can't seem to solve this one

Sorry mate - it seems like FS has decided you're just not Cranwell material! It's an "officers only" no-fly zone.. You'll have to do more work on that BBC accent, my friend!

Seriously, sorry to hear you're still struggling with this Nigel. Very weird - I wish I could think of something you haven't tried but I can't...

Last time I actually flew to Cranners, old boy, was in 1979 in Whirlwind 10 XN126 from RAF Shawbury as support groundcrew. Would you believe I had to wear bestblue underneath my white overalls! I think a certain Royal was in training then.

I'm going to download that AlphaSearcher you have been ethusing about to see if that helps since I've cured the HeliTraffic problem, lovely AI Wessex HC2s flying everwhere

Hi

You can try to edit terrain.cfg (make backup first).

Open terrain.cfg and change following:

Change all "MaskClassMap=3" and "MaskClassMap=1" in to "MaskClassMap=0"

Save and try.

The common tweak of changing all lines saying "MaskClassMap=3" and "MaskClassMap=1" to "MaskClassMap=0" in the "terrain.cfg" to prevent CTD when using complex landclasses and mesh.

Regards

I had forgotton about that tweak for the terrain.cfg so gave it a try but no effect!! I'm not getting a CTD but a freeze at loading FS9 at Cranwell or "This program has failed to respond" error board appears when the flight freezes.

Its so frustrating that I had this problem in the past with Windows XP Home but have forgotten how I resolved it.

Thanks for the input anyway.

 Sorted!!!!!

I had a trawl through Visual Flight Forum site which I haven't been to for a while and found this by chance:-

Visual Flight Forum----------------- Alan Trussell 09 Apr 2009

"Hi

This may help others In FS9

I had a Crash to Desktop on approaching UK 2000 Cranwell airport and later again after disabling this scenery and using Cranwell College scenery, which also includes the same airport.

The solution was found to be a clash with the Folkingham agn by Rod Brown.

Disabling the file below solves the problem

010331311302121an.ag

Found in Photoscenery vol 1.1 or your AIO Texture folder

AlanT"

As soon as I read that I knew that was the solution. I isolated the agn file and a quick test flight at RAF Cranwell proved to be OK, so am now working on my accent with a large malt in my hand, Ian

Cheers!

Well done mate! Now just remember that if the Cranwell types are still not nice to you, Biggles wasn't welcome there either so what do they know about real pilots anyway!!! LOL

Cheers

Ian
