LINDA newbie MCP advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Today I have been trying to setup LINDA for the first time. So far I have all my basic joystick buttons setup and working with no issues. I have an VRi MCP (original) that I am trying to connect, but without success.

I have followed the manual and the manual that Brian did, but LINDA always shows that the connection to the COM port has failed. Using the VRi software, the MCP connects and works on COM11. I deleted all associated lines from the FSUIPC.ini and got LINDA to add them for me using COM11, but it still fails.

I switch on the MCP, then start LINDA and then FSX. Am I missing something very obvious here?

Check the section of the file FSUIPC4.ini called [VRinsight] please. It should look like this in your case with no other lines at all in that section;

[Vrinsight]

1=Com11

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I did check that, even removed it and got LINDA to replace it, but still the same.

Does VRiSim (or SerialFP2 if you are still using the old software) connect ok with default aircraft?

Is the FSUIPC addons menu item showing and if you open it can you see all the extra user features that are available to registered users?

Oh yes, also try removing the folders called "Project Magenta" within the Linda install folders (see the end of my post for their location), just drag and drop them to another location when LINDA and FSX are not running, I seem to remember that these modules were causing problems for some people.

Hi,

I spent some time working through the basics.

VRiSim worked fine and FSUIPC is all working ok.

I removed the files you suggested, but still the same. I reinstalled FSUIPC and redownloaded LINDA, removing old files and replacing them, but to no avail.

I looked into COM ports as I've never needed to do anything with them. I checked what was in use and then manually changed the port to number 15. This worked and LINDA now communicates with the MCP.

Bit strange, not sure why COM11 would work with VRiSim, but not with LINDA.

Thanks for the help.

Ok thank you for the feedback, that is strange, I've never had to change port numbers before either, I'm glad it's working now, enjoy.

Just for reference, you have the panel listed as an "MCP Pro" in your signature, that's actually made by a different company that no longer exists as far as I understand, the old MCP1 is actually called an "VRInsight MCP Combo".

Cheers, Andy.

Thanks for that, it is indeed the combo that I have. Never noticed or know why I have it listed as pro.
