GA- AI, which planes work the best?

Featured Replies

When using GA-traffic program, I have been trying to find planes that don't affect the frame rate too much. There is very few I can find. I am just wondering what others are using that they feel make great GA AI.

I've been using Mike Stones planes as well as my own for the most part. Also the new GA AI planes recently released. To trick the program to use some of the Biz Jets, set the programs max weight to 30,000 pounds and then temporarily set the aircraft weight in the cfg file to 29,000 pounds to allow the program to use it. then once the aircraft is in the programs data file you can set the weight back to the previous level.Brian

Well, I went ahead a purchased the above packages from Simmarket. I'm very pleased with them. They are indeed low-poly designs, and work quiet well for GA-AI. Look pretty nice, too.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88273.jpgI'm also using the Pilatus PC6 Turbo by Mike Cronin and Piper Navajo by Henry Tomkiewicz (w/ paint by Stephen Nicholson) with no problems.Cheers,Greg

Wow, thanks Greg for the link and the pics, really sweet! I to have been using the AI models in the library from Mike, Dee Waldron and Henry Tomkiewicz for AI versions of the payware aircraft we use in the VA. I only wish that they had see thru cockpits with interiors as the payware ones do in your pics, that is the line between reality and performance for me. Question, do the payware ones come with a paintkit?? Would be really nice if they had tie downs and/or covers when on the power is off ( hint, if the developer is reading) I have been using lots of repaints for the default 172s, Barons, King Airs and Mooneys for the GA traffic generator and they work great, Mike stones are to heavy for AI from my experience.I'll have to check the payware ones out, too bad they are payware as I can't distrubute them to the others in the VA if I use them. Hi All,You all should try out the AI plane converter that is a part of GA Traffic. It does a good job of creating AI planes.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

"You all should try out the AI plane converter that is a part of GA Traffic. It does a good job of creating AI planes."These payware planes are much better. The AI maker in GA Traffic only changes the size of the textures. But I always check the .mdl file of any plane I'm interested in for AI, and most will have .mdl file sizes in the range of 500-600Kb. These payware AI .mdl file sizes are 125-225Kb... far easier on the FPS. In fact I noticed only a very minor hit on performance even with alot of these AI flying around and parked at airports. The maker of these things claims to be working on a commuter package, but things seem to happen slowly with him. It would be nice to have a package like that to go along with the Cessna and Piper packages.Mike... no paint kit. But there are no restrictions on repaints. These little buggers fly well, too. I haven't seen anything really bizarre from any of them. And even if I do in the future, it's easy enough to assign different FD from within GA Traffic. I was a bit hesitant to BUY some AI aircraft (afterall, you can't fly 'em :-) ), but I'm glad I went for these. Now I don't have to worry about the frames taking an AI hit anytime I approach an airport.Cheers,Greg

Now if a developer would just include covers and tie downs, have a large variety of frame rate friendly GA aircraft and put them in a package similar to Ult. Traffic for making routes. I would purchase that in a heartbeat. I am going to have to think about forking over the $25 for these little guys, cause it may be the best I can get at this point. For now, I will continue my search for good freeware AI planes or making free planes into such.

"For now, I will continue my search for good freeware AI planes or making free planes into such."Let us know what you find. We can't have TOO many types of GA-AI.Cheers,Greg

I noticed Sim Market has dropped the price on the AI GA planes to be much more affordable. I think I will give them a try.

"I noticed Sim Market has dropped the price on the AI GA planes..."Figures... right after I bought them.Cheers,Greg

I had a look at the new AI planes from Henry T and Dee Waldron and they are terrific! Excellent fps! I now use some of the repaints available on avsim plus some of my own repaints and have traffic all round without the drop in fps. Highly recommended. Additionally, use the C182RG and the PA-128 from the default as these are also very good for AI. Still experimenting with other default ones. Put them all in the pot and run the GA-Traffic generator and voila! Shez
