New to MSFS 2004

Featured Replies

Not sure if my initial attmept at posting this worked!!I have recently bought MSFS2004 after using XPlane 730 for 6 months. In XP you can relatively easily make changes to aircraft parameters such as rolling friction, positions of control surfaces, etc, etc. I have looked around MSFS, found FSEdit, .cfg files, etc but these appear to only allow you to do so much. Am I missing something or how do I make such chnages if I want to?Also the 'flight management system' in standard Boeing aircraft appears to be not as the real world equipment. And the PFD, ND and EICAS 'gauges' are somewhat limited in functionality. Are there any add-ons that improve on these?Look forward to any answers!

FS utilizes a file for each aircraft with the extension of .airto modify this file type you can use a freeware tool called AirEDat http://members.dsl-only.net/~eagle/#statementfor higher quality boeing equipment check outPMDG for the 737NG serieshttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/DreamFleet for the 737 classic series FS2k2http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/737.htmlReady for Pushback for the 747 early serieshttp://www.fscentral.com/74readforpus.htmlthere are several other high quality products available, others will post here I am sure

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB
MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro |  GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K

The standard heavies in FS are very far away from simulating the real thing. It starts with the flight dynamics and ends with the many leftouts in cockpit instrumentation. Basically the standard heavies fly like a cessna with autopilot. You only get a basic autopilot with limited functions, no FMS, incomplete EICAS etc. So if you want to fly heavies with simulated systems very near to reallife you have to buy addons as stated above.:-) cheers,Claudio:-kewl

Fully agree with the PMDG 737NG recommendation. You'll get the real world function you're looking for. See the recent AVSIM review of this plane (hint..) Warning re the Dreamfleet 737, great plane; however, it does NOT work with FS2004.

Thanks for the responses. I'll see how I get on!!

I'm also pretty new to FS9 and any of the MSFS titles. Agree on the recomendation on the PMDG 737 however after buying it and finally learning the FMC I personally just don't find it anywhere near as much fun or interesting to fly then then Captain Sims 727 or PlanelShops 747.Infact if anyone is looking for a cheap PMDG 737 let me know:-)Though I find the PMDG B1900D alot of fun and a great break from the heavies, especially with Reality XP Gauges.
