August 20, 200421 yr Why do you say it's an answer to blurry textures?I see nothing that suggests it's going to do that - only that it is somehow loads low-resolution mesh in the distance and high-resolution mesh closer to the aircraft, not that it somehow extends the capabilities of fully loading textures out to the horizon or something...What do -you- think of it?Andrew>What do we think of FS Global 2005?>>Tim>>Details: http://fsglobal2005.com/ H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g

Basically, it's indeed just another Shuttle Radar (SRTM) based add-on mesh, similar to the other free and payware ones available already. The general difference between the indidvidual packages is in the interpolation of the missing data (a common issue with SRTM data) but I haven't seen any of the Global2005 files and thus can't judge their quality and accuracy. However, the idea of providing a low-LOD "buffer" mesh (they give it the fancy name of "double rendering") based on the same source data is a useful addition; I've used it in my freeware Namibia mesh file a few months ago and other authors are starting to do the same. It minimizes the occurence of light blue slivers in the mid to far distance, also referred to as texture tearing. What I'm surprised about, however, is that Global2005 uses LOD5 as a buffer mesh, the same resolution as the base mesh (instead of LOD6 or LOD7). This means that the Global2005 mesh is very restricted as to how it can be installed. For example, installing it as a separate add-on folder would mean the default LOD5 mesh would remain active and override the Global2005, compromising the "double rendering" method.I'm sure we'll learn more details as users, and perhaps the developers, provide feedback.Cheers, Holger
