Scenery installation procedures

Featured Replies

hey guys,

can someone post a simple procedure for scenery enhancements installation? Since there are couple of types of enhancements I am not sure which after which I should install (landclass, mesh, textures, etc.) A quick rundown of the recommended payware products of each type will also be greatly appreciated. By now I have my eyes pointed at the following: GEX, UTX, SceneryTech. I also find FS global and ORBX UK very interesting, but will they work with GEX/UTX/scenerytech combo?

thanks in advance

GEX replaces your default textures. They are enhanced and optimized to render faster in FSX. Consider it an upgrade to fsx. I personally like the enhancements in this product. If an Orbx product is installed and enabled, it will not use GEX or the default textures. Those textures will only render when you fly out of the Orbx area (or any photoscenery type area). Orbx products, when enabled willl usually sit on top of your scenery library. GEX will not be in the Scenery Library as it only replaces the default textures. I have placed all of my UTX products just above Propeller Objects in the Scenery Library so any addon on top of it will be rendered properly.

I like the MegaSceneryX products and especially the latest - MegaScenery Earth V2. I don't think you can go wrong with Orbx products too. I have no personal knowledge of FS Global or SceneryTech but you can read the reviews about them in our Review section here on AVSIM.

Best regards,

Jim

Hey Jim,

thanks for the info. Reading your replay though, make me realise that maybe I've should mentioned I'm talking about Europe and not the US (I see Megascenery is US only). Anyway, I get the big picture. So - no matter which after which I install, the important thing is their order in my scenery library, right?

thanks

Ignat
