Where to get airway data for FMC flight planning?

Featured Replies

I'd like to program my FMC for PMDG a/c with high altitude airway routings but I just learned that in order to do this, I need to know what nav aids officially lie on which airways. Does anybody know where I can find this info? I currently use FSNavigator 4.5 which has tons of airways but it doesn't give associated waypoint info and I found out that it's dangerous to assume that just because an airway crosses or intersects a navaid, it means that navaid is on the airway!Appreciate any advice or guidance, thanks!JS

I use this one:http://www.navdata.at/It has airways updates for both PMDG and FSNavigator in easy to install exe files - and combined with FSNavs export feature, it works like a charm :)

JS,Since you are a FSNav user, you can find out which airways, if any, a particular navaid is on by putting the pointer over the navaid. For eacmple, a VOR on an airway will give you all the VOR info, plus the airways of which the VOR is a part ... very neat.If you want to know all the waypoints on a particular route, open up ...flight simulator 9fmcwpnavdata and look at the file wpNavRTE.txt ... it has each airway and all the waypoints on it. For instance, search on A1, a very long jet route from Africa to the far east, you will see that it has 115 waypoints.Go to sportys pilot shop (as an example) and look for charts ... HI or LO altitude enroute charts ... they are relatively inexpensive and show you lots of details ... but FSNav also has the same info if you turn on the correct buttons ... I should also add then when you use the MSFS flight planner, FSNav or FSBuild (and I'm sure other planners) and ask for Hi Alt routes, if there are one or two in your path, all planners will use the routes which will be clearly shown in the resulting flight plan. You can then simply enter the entry point and exit points and the FMC will fill in the blanks. For instance ... from Bangkok to Hong Kong you would use A1 ... direct to SELKA from VTBK, then A1 to DAGON, from DAGON many "from the southwest" STAR arrivals to VHHH like DAGON1A, 1B, etc.. All you need is the direct to SELKA, then the A1 to DAGON and the FMC should fill in BUTRA PAPRA DAN BUNTA CAVOI DAGON for you .... very neat stuff I think.
