August 21, 200421 yr Hi,Is anyone using Simflyers EDDF for FS2004 ? I wonder whether it is basically an FS2002 version that still works under FS2004 or whether it has been adjusted for FS2004 when you intall it into FS2004 ? Are there any snags with that product ?Originally I was looking for German Airports 2 but its release seems to be slipping all the time (GAP3 has slipped twice already). Perhaps these come out when FS2006 is already on the horizon. So I am now considering Simflyers EDDF.Cheers,Siggy Siggy Schwarz
August 21, 200421 yr Hi Siggy,Simflyer's EDDF scenery has been patched for FS2004 and works pretty fine with it, at least that's my experience so far.On simflyer's website is even a suitable AFCAD file for FS2004.You might want to download EDDF from their website and test the demo version first.I hope that helped you!Greetings, Christian http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/chrismo/sigsky.jpgVacation: wasted time between 2 flights!
August 22, 200421 yr Siggy,I use the SimFlyers EDDF scenery, IMHO, it is just outstanding. There are many little items like the fence line as you make your approach is just nothing short of outstanding. As an American, flying into a huge European airport always brings to mind comparisons. I have flown to Frankfurt Main in real life, this represenations of that great airport is realy great.I can't say enough good stuff about EDDF, if you don't belive what I have said, just try it in demo mode. It is really good.CheersBob JohsnonKDEN
August 22, 200421 yr The SimFlyers EDDF is garbage (extremely poor textures, even freeware excedes this) don't buy, looks like a FS2000 Product!Suggest you wait for GAP-2 coming/released this Christmas (I own GAP 1, blows away the Simflyers product in both texturing and framerates)The link: http://www.aerosoft.com/cgi-local/en/ibosh...ow70,3698066280 I suggest you buy Munich or Stuttgart thru their Online Sales then you know what I mean!!!PS: I don't dislike Simflyers; their pricing on multiple airport purchases is excellent also their new airports like Phoenix are quite good. They refuse to upgrade their textures on their Version 2 airports, the only improvements are updated vehicles and taxiways.
August 22, 200421 yr Author Thank you to all who replied ! All your comments, good and bad, were helpful. In the meantime Iinstalled the demo version. Although it looksquite nice, the frame rates were terrible and Iguess that did not come from the extra sharewarebitmaps. Once I turned off static aircraft and vehicles using the DisplayTool (which is a verygood idea to have), frame rates became acceptable, not exciting though.Regarding the GAP series, I have GAP-1 for FS2004.The trouble with these guys is that they of courseonly work in their spare time on it, and that takestime and there is less of a commitment of courseregarding deadlines. GAP-2 and GAP-3 have been pushedout twice and GAP-3 is now expected in November (let meguess, this means January :)) and GAP-2 in early 2005(I guess this could mean April/May if not later).By that time I need to wait for the FS2006 updateswhich are likely to be required or at least desirable. To me this all means I'll probably be without a numberof German Airports for a year or more.Cheers,Siggy Siggy Schwarz
August 22, 200421 yr I can not wait for the new German Airport scenery from Aerosoft. (both GAP2 and GAP3) As soon as it comes out Im going to buy it and un-install my simflyers version of EDDF.
August 22, 200421 yr I have both (Aerosofts EDDF and Simflyers EDDF) and i like Aerosofts secenery more.Simflyers didnt look good and the framerates were a joke...
August 22, 200421 yr I totally agree with everyone...Simflyers needs to fix their older airports. But at least in EDDF's case there is competition that will create a better airport. Unfortunately, for US airports like LAX there seems to be a lack of competition, which means we will have to put up with and pay for poor quality of their older airports...they plan to only upgrade the taxiways, runways and vehicles of their version 2 airports and they will do nothing about their building textures!Btw
August 22, 200421 yr My criteria for any scenery is to fly in with the PMDG 737, which itself uses up quite a few resources. If the framerates hold up, then that scenery is good. Unfortunately, SimFlyers EDDF, as mentioned above, is much too slow, which is too bad as it was one of my favorite airports in FS2002.Mike F.
August 23, 200421 yr Author It seems as if Simflyers EDDF was made for FS2002 and was just adjusted for FS2004. From slewing aroundin their scenery I noticed that objects jump intoview all of a sudden as you get closer to them.In FS2004 a designer would most likely use the LODfeature for different levels of detail at differentdistances in order to reduce the number of polygonsthe graphics card has to draw/display. The only thingI like about Simflyers (compared to the GAP series)is their tool to select what to include. The globalsetting for scenery complexity unfortunately is notvery useful as each designer interprets this differently. In my opinion it would be best if FS allowed a per-sceneryentry setting for displayed complexity (could be partof the scenery setup dialog).Cheers,Siggy Siggy Schwarz
