Abandoned Airports in FSX

Featured Replies

I noticed that there are a fair number of Canadian airports in FSX that are listed in Transport Canada's Canada Flight Supplement, as being abandoned. In the real world would a pilot be able to still land an aircraft at these airports?

I guess it woudl depend on the size and the type of the airfield. Take Kai Tak as an example. It's not possible to land there at all, since it's become a part of Hong Kong City.

Also, small airstrips with no only grass or gravel surface will probably become "unlandable", as grass and trees will start to grow quite fast making some more or less dangerous obstacles. On the other hand, larger airfields with asphalt/concrete surfaces will probably not become part of the wilderness again, and thus they will be kind of available for pilots.(By this I mean that they will be suitable for emergency landings, but scheduled flights will not be allowed)

Thank you for answering my query. I was just curious about the legality of landing at an airport listed as abandoned; in the real world of course. In FSX, anything goes!

I know of several abandoned airstrips in real life....you would likely end up dead when you hit the abandoned garbage that is strewn about.

I didn't really consider that garbage could be a problem. I shouldn't really be surprised; living on Vancouver Island I see a large amount of garbage dumped along the logging roads, especially the old spur roads.
