Software problems with Windows 7 and 8

Featured Replies

A couple of programs used in FSX no longer work when I upgrade Windows.

MRAI Compiler ceased working when I went from Vista to Windows 7. I spent many hours on the net searching for help using the error message generated, but to no avail.

ModelConverterX (MCX) ceased working when I went from Windows 7 to Windows 8. I can not return to Windows 7 because it does not make use of all of my installed RAM.

When I try to load a .dae model into MCX, I get exception messages and the model does not load. When I check the event log, it says that the triangles in the model are discarded because they do not contain any area.

Any help with either of these problems would be appreciated.

It can if you install Windows 7 64bit (Or any 64Bit version of windows for that matter.

Its best to run a 64bit OS anytime you have more than 3.5GB of memory and actually want to use it..

If you run Win 7 64bit, then FSX can use a full 4GB on its own, and windows can also have enough memory to run too, if for example you have 8GB installed...

It is a little more complicated than that. I had Windows 7 Home Premium on my system which as a limit of 16 Gb of RAM. I have 32 Gb of ram installed in my motherboard. I could have upgraded to Windows 7 Professional which would have used all my RAM, but that would have cost somewhere around US$175.

However, I was able to upgrade to Windows 8 for only US$39.99 which uses all my RAM, so I chose to do that.

Unfortunately mate, sounds like you will have to put up with the broken stuff or go back to Win7 but in a 64bit format.

I bought Win7 Ultimate 64bit for £95 OEM, so you should be able to get any 64bit version for less than $100 easily..

So are you saying that your using a 64bit operating system already? (As your PC came with 16GB ram)..........

If yes, then you didn't need to upgrade at all, you could have kept your $40 and left it as it was.. Unless you have something unique that requires a full 32GB of ram? (Nothing for FSX can use it)
