Posky ATC+lights fail 30 min after starting sim

Featured Replies

I have an error occurring only with Posky aircraft (737/777) - ATC stops working and interior/exterior lights fail 30-35 minutes after starting the sim. This is the case whether the plane is in the air or on the ground parked at the gate with engines on or off.

The error doesn't occur with any other aircraft from PMDG/CLS etc so I tried replacing relevant posky files in the Effects directory but to no avail. I even tried reinstalling FS9's sound file and editvoicepack but the problem persists.

Anyone know how I can fix this problem? Thanks!

Battery on?

A.

On the ground FS9 will turn off the battery after a set amount of time. You need a registered copy of FSUIPC to override it with the extend battery life option I believe it's called.

In the air however I'm stumped. It shouldn't just turn off everything like that so there's something definitely amiss. Try Horatio's suggestions and see how it goes.

Yeah of course. It happens even during mid flight. Avionics and engines etc all run fine but 30 mins into starting the sim, lights go out and even though there's ATC chatter, I can't respond to it anymore. Once again, happens only with posky aircraft.

Thanks - but I run the posky 777 with PPS panel merge so this happens even with the APU and the external power running when on the ground. I've had no problem for years but this started happening from a couple days ago so I'm assuming that a certain file has become corrupt?

What changes have you made to your sim in the past few days? Perhaps something you installed has broken something somewhere.

Nothing new for FS9 but I did run the C drive disk defragmentation recently.

You say you have replaced various effects files ,I might be wrong but effects files would not be the cause of your problem. The same goes for EVAP or FS9 sound file.

What is the PPS panel?

Do you use it in any other aircraft?

And if so are they functioning correctly?

I would guess that the pps panel is of the more complex variety ,as people want to use it in there Poskies .The more complex and realistic usually means more care and time on startup .(you have got to get it right ,or things go wrong)

PPS

When I asked you whether you had Bat,avs, alts on you replied "Yeah of course" somewhat indignantly I thought. You would be surprised (including myself in the past) how many people forget to switch on batteries ,avionics etc and get the very symptoms you describe .

Anyways

cheers Andy

Turns out you're right Cyanide, I solved the problem by purchasing FSUIPC. Looks like it's a known FS9/FSX bug.

In short, the default FS battery setting ignores/overrides the payware aircraft's power setting under certain (unknown) conditions and fizzles out in 30 minutes which knocks out the aircraft's radio and lights. Incredibly, this is the case even when the aircraft's APU/external power/engines are running with electrical buses properly configured. Engines continue to run or can even be started and all the cockpit displays function properly - only interior/exterior lights and radio are knocked out.

Registered version of FSUIPC's battery life setting (under "Miscellaneous" tab > "Additional facilities" section > click on "Extend battery life (indefinitely if value = 0, else by factor)" and set box to "0") completely solves this problem.

In my case, changing the aircraft cfg's "electric_always_available=0" under [electrical] section to ""electric_always_available=1" did not solve the problem.

I have no idea what the "certain conditions" are because my posky+PSS 777 merge (sorry Andy, typo in my previous post) worked fine for many years and my PMDG 747 still hasn't experienced this issue. I even went through the painful process of reinstalling my FS9 to see if it was caused by a corrupt file but to no avail. One pattern seems to be that the problem occurs if I start the flight in areas with add-on scenery vs default scenery but I could be wrong.

Anyways, thanks for all your suggestions and replies!

Just to say that there's an identical problem with the PSS Dash 8, which you can fix either via FSUIPC as above or configuring the a/c always to load cold and dark. Scenery doesn't seem to make any difference. So maybe it's a PSS thing.

Anyways glad you got it sorted.

PS

i am not sure about payware aircraft that might be affected by the 'battery life' issue but in most cases you can manually alter the Aicraft CFG (as was done) or you can use a freeware (very good ,best in fact IMO) tweaking program called FLUSIFIX to do it for you .

In my case I don't have a registered FSUIPC either, just the free version.

Actually these days I don't really bother with extending battery life.,just get started up pronto instead.

PPS I have to add that I don't have any payware aircraft .

ppps

I must mention that I have had this battery /avionics failure myself (only very occasionally ) when using my 737ngs and the PSPanels panel.

Don't no why it occurs ,but I live with it as its a rare occurence .
