nVidia Inspector - Trilinear optimization

Can anyone confirm or dispute this - I have Ansiotopic set in FSX but when I set Trilinear Optimization on in nVidia Inspector my plane textures are much improved. Also I'm using 8SQ SS and a quality setting in NI.

Could this be related to what was suggested in the AF threads? That FSX is better at AF, because it knows what to apply the filtering to.

Just tested it...

 

Not sure about quality, diffcult to tell but my frame rate dropped from 42, to 35, so minus 7 FPS. That's in the NGX VC.

The AF thread spoke specifically of heavy load when using REX water textures, and was probably correct. The problem is that there are several other settings which also have an impact on how much work AF has to do, and so, apart from DX10, where differences seem more visible, I'm not sure that any one method is going to "triumph" over another.

The reason that I threw this out there is because enabling Trilinear in NI shouldn't have any affect in FSX if it is not enabled in the FSX config. At the same time I did notice an improvement in IQ and also an FPS drop. I'm confused. Anyway I have since disabled it in NI. Need to test it on in DX10 mode next.
