REX or FEX

Featured Replies

Opus says:

We strongly recommend the use of 3rd party packages such as FEX for their sky and cloud textures, or HDEv2 (freeware) for clouds with the sky upgraded by Danny Glover.

REX is not mentioned, is there any reason I should choose FEX instead of REX(already own)

I want to use Opus on 3 pc's with livecamera and weather synchonized across 7x 27" screens

Do opus and FEX have advantages like automatically load new textures on all pc's instead of when using Opus with REX you probably do that manually ? Or is there no reason....

Also,

If i install REX and want to change to FEX is there any "polutted FSX" because of those textures/incompatibility ?

The textures are just a matter of personal taste, it is entirely your choice. We personally prefer the soft natural look of FEX, I believe you can get them from Flight1 with a 30 day money back guarantee if you wanted to try them but there is nothing wrong with using what you have already got. In any case we would recommend using the low res 1024 version since it is less of a burden on FSX and I think looks more natural.

I believe some of our users just install the textures on one PC and all other networked PCs access these textures, can't say I've tried it myself.

There is no problem in installing one texture package over another, we have installed FEX over REX in the past and not had any problems.

Remco,

I went down this debate with myself about Rex versus FEX and, like you, I already own REXEss but now don't use the weather engine, I leave the Opus W/E to do the job with the RexEss textures and I'm more than happy with that.

To be honest, how can you compare real clouds with simulated clouds. It's just down to what you'd like to see and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Play around with the textures that Rex has to offer before you put your hand in your pocket.
