September 1, 200421 yr Have been trying to fly the various versions of the Britten Norman Trislander to make some screen shots for a project. Unfortunately although there are many repaints there only appears to be one airfile which (IMHO) is no good for FS2004.Has anyone found or successfully modified an airfile that works with the Trislander?RegardsAdam
September 1, 200421 yr Hi Adam,2 questions for you.1) Which Trislander are you using?2) What exactly is wrong with the airfile you have got?CheersDan.
September 1, 200421 yr Author Hi DanI have the one and only Trislander available for FS2004 (Marcel Kuhnt version). Do you know of anymore?Flight model is all over the place. Thats the only way I can describe it(speeds are way out and it handles like a dog on valium).Probably doesn't help much does it...RegardsAdamAdam MooreUK JAR PPL/IMCWin XP Pro - Dell Dimension 4500P4 2.54 GHz - 1GB RAMHiTech Radeon 128MB 9800Pro IceQ19" CRT 1600x1200 @ 100hzAudiophile 24/96FS2004 + UK2000 1/2/3/4/5/6/EGLL PROUK VFR Photographic Scenery 1/2/3/4UK VFR Terrain MeshUltimate VFR : RealAir ScoutUltimate IFR : PMDG 737Ultimate FUN : RealAir SF-260
September 1, 200421 yr Hi Adam,OK, do you have the new Trislander files?, not sure if the FDE has changed since the old one, but its worth trying. Also, what are you comparing the speeds and handling too?, I have flown in a real Trislander (Lyddair from Lydd to Le Touqet) a few times, and from what I can remember, and I must admit, I havent flown the Trislander in FS for a while, it was not too far away.I will have a fly tonight, good excuse to check out my new hardware :-lol, and see what its like.CheersDan.
September 1, 200421 yr Author Hmm think I overwrote the old with the new but will check tonight thanks for the tip.I was involved with the making of a film in Jersey a few years ago and got to spend alot of time in the right hand seat of Aurigny's fleet of Trislanders (notably G-JOEY). Being a PPL I did take reasonable note of the handling and got to add it to my logbook as well (always a talking point at club meets lol). The flight dynamics in FS2004 are just awful. Feels like someone just took it apart and then stuck it back together in a hurry. This could be an FS2004 specific problem. I don't remember the same problems with it in FS2002 (although difficult to tell now as I use a different setup - CH Rudder Pedals, Saitek ForceFeedback stick with FS Force).Sorry I can't be more specific - I will also take another "flight" in it tonight and make some notes.CheersAdam
September 1, 200421 yr Hi Adam,Well, I have had a good fly in it, and I really can't see anything major thats wrong with it.I takes off and climbs at about the right speeds, it cruises at about the right speed at cruise power settings, lands at the correct speeds, and it seems to roll in more or less the same manner.Maybe if you could be a bit more specific then maybe we could try and make the FDE better?CheersDan.
September 2, 200421 yr Author Dan thanks for infoWhat version are you using of this aircraft (ie the zip file name) and whats the airfile info and date (my airfile is 2001!)If I can get the exact same version you are flying it may solve the mystery of my unhappy Trislander..ThanksAdam
September 2, 200421 yr Hi Adam,I have had a few people try it out, and like me they think they is nothing major up with it, BUT......they have suggested a couple of little tune-ups that can be done.1) Taking off with high loads results in the T/O speed being well over 70kts, I will try and make this T/O speed lower.2) It is hard to trim up to mantain pitch on climbout, so I will try to decrease the pitch trim sensitivity a little.Apart from that it does fly close to the numbers in all phases. When my little changes are done, I will let you have the files and we shall see if it makes Joey happy again ;)Dan.
September 2, 200421 yr Author OK super thanks for going to so much trouble over this!Nice URL by the way;-)
September 2, 200421 yr Author And if u can let me know which version of the aircraft you are using that will help too..
September 7, 200421 yr Author Hi DanOK looks like I was using the newer model with the old airfile (dont ask...). Have uninstalled all my previous Marcel models and installed only the new FS2004 Trislander files/sounds/panel. The only issues I see are (as you noted) the take-off speed which is too high (even with trim wound back) and have you noticed on approach the v nose high attitude even with maximum flaps (so high its sometimes difficult to see the runway on final approach).Other than that (and comparing it to the Trislander in Aurigny's Just Planes DVD) it flys very nicely! Thanks and let me know when you have finished tweaking the airfile.RegardsAdam
September 7, 200421 yr Hi Adam,Glad you got it almost fixed ;)I am still tweaking the mods, I too notice the nose up attitude, not only on approach, but in cruise I am getting 4Deg pitch up, which I feel is too much.BTW what apporach speed are you using?, I have found that 90KIAS is quite a nice approach speed, if a touch too highSo hopefully my fixes to the pitch in cruise will translate to the approach phase too, BTW I am VERY new to making changes to the FDE, so it could be a slow process :-lolDan.
September 7, 200421 yr Author DanI was also using 85-90 kts reducing to 65 (is the correct approach speed 65kts? Or is that for the Islander? The Pilots flying notes/checklist don't appear to list separate speeds for Islander/Trislander). Tried to find some real Trislander Pilots Notes/Checklist online with no luck so far.I agree with you on the general pitch attitude - does not look very healthy. I have had to raise my eyeview lots in VC mode to see ahead properly in the approach phase (the view in main panel during approach is unusable for me). Will look forward to trying your tweaked file when its finished.CheersAdam
September 7, 200421 yr I have some real world Trislander pilot notes/checklists on my home PC, albeit modified into txt format for the kneeboard. If you use MSN, you can contact me later tonight and I will let you have [email protected] is my MSNDan.
