Flew the Trislander again last night and realised that there is something else seriously wrong with the airfile. When you REDUCE power on approach the aircraft attempts to climb..When you increase power on approach it loses altitude! The airfile is seriously boggered!Someone somewhere has mixed up their up with their down lolPity because apart from the atrocious handling its a super looking aircraft.Adam

Fret not, it is being sorted out, once its finished the FD's will be very realistic.Dan.

I'll try not to fret so much - looking forward to your revised airfile Dan

Yep, as soon as they are done they will be available.I am trying to arrange some help in the FD's as the changes I am trying to make now are a bit more involved, I have posted on some forums and mailed a few people, so hopefully someone will be able to help out.My current airfile, with small modifications, has been flown by someone who knows the Trislander IRL, and has indentified the areas that need work, so at least I know what needs changing, its just a matter of changing the FD to suit.Dan.

"When you increase power on approach it loses altitude!"I haven't tried it so I don't know to what degree you mean. However, it may not be altogether incorrect - take a look at the position of the middle prop. The mean thrust line is above the drag line. Therefore, when you apply power the nose will pitch down and visa-versa. I would imagine this should be a slight tendancy at the most though!

The flight model is in fact "slightly" correct, as the trislander does indeed show this charactaristic due to the way the 3rd engine is mounted, BUT.....it should not pitch up/down in the amount it does in the freeware one. This is infact a little academic now, as it seems my search for someone (who knows about FD's) has been fruitless, and without this assistance there is no way I can fumble round inside the cfg and air file trying to put what I want into it.Sorry guys, until I can find some help the FD's will have to stay as they are.Dan.

Interesting post regarding the effect the third engine has on pitch. Think I'll stick to 1 or 2 engines in the future then!Pity about the airfile - it's back to my RealAir SF-260 then (at least I know the airfile on that is deadly accurate;-)CheersAdam

Interesting topic. I don't fly Marcel's Trislander a great deal, although it is on my HD. I do however fly his Islanders on a regular basis, and although his models are SUPERB (LOVE the VC/Vcabin, and the great soundset), the Islander also suffers from an inaccurate air file. I have flown in Islanders ALL my life, and hope to end up flying them myself within a couple of years. Marcel's Islander air file lacks the three MAJOR characteristics of Islanders - 1. The acceleration. My experience is only with 2 blade engined Islanders, but even with just the 2 blades, these beauties accelerate VERY quickly...which leads to the next point. 2. Takeoff run to long. Takeoff SPEED seems pretty accurate. Its just the inaccuracy of the acceleration, leads to an unrealistic takeoff run. 3. Many Islander pilots will tell you, they had an interesting experience during their type rating! Come across the threshold at 10 feet and cut the power as you might in a lot of twins, and you'll be in for a shock. She will drop like a stone! Catches a lot of pilots out during their first time behind the controls of the Islander! They should definately be landed 'power on'.The 3rd point IS present in the air file, although perhaps not as prominently as it should be. But the 1st point, the acceleration, needs fixing. So congrats to Marcel on his SUPERB models of the Islander and Trislander, but it seems the air files need some touching up.Best regards,Al.

Yeah, I love em too, in particular the Tri, dont know why, it just looks great to me.In Fact, the BN-2's are one of the very few planes I fly exclusivly from the VC, I feel they are that good. This is the reason why I am trying very hard to make realistic dynamics for the Tri, and who knows, if I can pull the Tri off, they is no reason why the Islander can't get the same treatment. If so, Al, would it be OK for me to contact you regarding Beta test for the FDE?, seeing as you have experiance if the BN-2.I am good for the testing of the Tri, as I know someone who is current on it.I am determined to get these planes flying better, but it may be a long road aheadDan.

Sure thing Dan, I'd be happy to help if you ever tackle the Islander air file.Al.

I have worked on this file, see what you think, I have been told that although its not "exact" it is now a lot closer to the real plane. These dynamics are modified from the FSAviator Trislander FDE for FS2002, modified by me with big help from Tom Gibson. It is not possible to get in contact with FSAviator, so I hope that posting these modded versions will be ok.I have also attached the ref figures used in the creation of this FDE.Dan.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/90794.ziphttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/90795.txt

Hi DanThanks for modified files - certainly seems to improve the angle of attack and approach angles. I found that flying with around 50-60% fuel and no passengers also improves things alot so maybe there's an issue to do with setting of the Centre of Gravity in the airfile (if that can be modelled? I don't know).A definite improvement over the original file anyway:-)RegardsAdam

Hey Adam,Glad its improved things for you.Yes, there is certainly some room for improvement with the station loading. Not sure how much you know about the RL Tri, but IRL the pilots sometimes have a little computer to work out where to place the "larger" PAX in order to get the COG right. So wieght and balance is very important, maybe this needs to be modelled better in the sim. But, I am still learning, so it may be a while yet.Dan.
