  1. Further investigation reveals its not just on landing. I loaded a flight up using a random grass airstrip, and the engines failed after a few seconds of just sitting at idle with brakes on. Very strange!
  2. Whilst I realise that with its lack of ground clearance and prop clearance, the Turbo Commander is not an aircraft you would generally use on bush flying type airstrip surfaces, I have seen one operating on a very smooth and fine gravel runway. Unfortunately it seems that there is engine damage hard coded into the Carenado model, that precludes using the aircraft on any landing surface other than tarmac. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this, and/or is bothered by it? I'm all for realism, but regardless of the aircraft's suitability for the role, I'd like to be able to take the risk if I want to, without an automatic double engine failure as soon as I land on gravel or dirt. The included aircraft checklist makes reference to not using full reverse if landing on dirt - but it doesn't say DON'T land on gravel or dirt. Any thoughts? Cheers. Al.
  3. To this day I am shocked that nobody has done any of the Challenger variants (601, 604, 605). Essentially all they are is a shortened fuselage version of the older CRJ variants (e.g. CRJ 200). Hugely popular biz jet, and I would love to have one in FS.
  4. Good Day Gentleman,I don't believe I have posted in the HiFi forum for several years. AS5, 6 and 6.5 transformed my FS2004 world many years ago, and to this day I can't thank you enough for the positive aspects they added to it.I've been using FSX for a couple of years now, but not in the hardcore manner that I used FS2004 before that. A few months ago I purchased AS Evolution, and it has on the whole been excellent. But I do have a couple of issues.1. MASSIVE frame rate hit during weather update.2. Despite setting weather update to every 30 minutes, it always updates after 15.My system is fairly reasonable - i7 930, 8GB RAM, Twin 1GB GTX460's in SLI, and FSX runs OK, but AS Evolution cripples it during the weather update. Is this normal? Are there any particular settings I should adjust in order to try and remedy it?Any help most appreciated.Thanks!Regards,Al.
  5. I appreciate you replying, thank you.It was Aerosoft's Kos, and Larnaca sceneries where the issue is predominant for me - so this sounds like it will solve my problems.Thank you again!Regards,Al.
  6. Good Day All,There doesn't seem to be a support forum over at the WOAI website, so thought I would pick some brains here.I have a minor problem with AI visibility, and it is not something I have seen with WOAI packages before. Basically at a couple of airports that I have downloaded all the visiting airline packages for, I can hear ATC talking to the aircraft, but they aren't visible. The AI labels are visible, if I turn on that feature in Display options, and sometimes the aircraft lights - but no textures or even aircraft model. I don't believe its the airports in question that are an issue, as at certain times of the day there are visible AI movements, so it must be an individual package issue.Would anyone know what might be causing this?Any input most appreciated!Thank you.Regards,Al.
  7. Greetings everyone,I've been away from FS for about 2.5 years now, having in the past been an experienced user of FS2004. I recently reinstalled FSX, and have spent a couple of weeks tweaking and buying a couple of addons. Am very happy with how it looks now, and have been doing some casual simming. However, I have a rather bizarre problem, can't work out whether its just me, or something I've accidently set without realising it.Basically, despite having realism set to as realistic as possible, I am shocked by the lack of momentum during control movements. Every aircraft I have seems to be behaving like an aerobatic aircraft, not in terms of movement rate, but in terms of momentum. If I initiate a turn, climb, descent, then return the stick to neutral, the result is an imediate halt in the movement - obviously in light aircraft this wouldn't be suprising, but I would expect to see continuation of the movement when flying larger aircraft, that may even require control movement in the opposite sense in order to slow the rate of movement from the original direction.I don't believe I'm doing a very good job of describing the problem, so I must apologise - but hopefully someone knows what I mean!My old MS Sidewinder 2 forcefeedback is USB1, so can't use it anymore, and bought a cheaper joystick, which is sadly spring loaded at the base. I'm not sure if this could be affecting the momentum, but am not sure how.Of course it could just be me!Any thoughts on this problem most appreciated!Regards,Al.
  8. Many thanks for the advice guys.I get the feeling its as you are suggesting, and a file permissions type problem with Vista.I'll see if I can get to the bottom of it!Al.
  9. Morning all.Fresh FS2004 install, and despite adding the 'old modules' bit into FS9.cfg, upon loading, FS is still moaning that I have fssound.dll and that it will be disabled. As always, any help appreciated. I should mention that my new FS2004 install is on Vista 64 Ultimate.Regards,Al.
  10. That is the OSS Dornier. Presumably someone from OSS, or affiliated with them, took over the project. Excellent to see that it may still be completed.Al.
  11. The most notable payware Dornier 228 in development was by OSS (Online Simulation Solutions), but they closed, and thus the project would have been abandoned.A great shame as the visual model was absolutely stunning.Al.
  12. As usual, with a little perseverance I have actually solved the problem!Al.
  13. Hello all.Have been using FSX on my new system for a couple of months, but enjoyable as it is, it can't match FS9 with all my old addons, so am migrating back! FS9 should run like a dream on my new system, so I got the process underway last night...HOWEVER. Already I have run into Vista headaches. Am running Vista Ultimate 64. UAC is disabled, and I am listed as 'Administrator' under user accounts, but despite this, I can't get into 'application data' in documents and settings to get to my cfg file, and carry out the customary editing of terrain vertex, adding fssound.dll info etc...In the three months since I got my new system, I had been thinking to myself that all the bother Vista has given people since its release was obviously blowing over my head, but now that I've hit this problem I am going mental! :-)Despite some extensive searching online, I can't find a definitive answer. Hard to beleive, as this must have affected other people!Help most appreciated!Best regards,Al.
  14. Hi Nigel.Unfortunately I don't know the technical in's and out's of why multi-card setups can be a hinderance rather than a help. The magazine article was very detailed, but sadly I don't have it to hand, as its at work. But I'll bring it home with me this evening and post some details from the relevant part, as they definately had 9800's in the test.Al.P.S. Shouldn't have to wait until this evening actually - I am sure I can find the time to post later this morning whilst at work.
  15. Again, thanks for all these replies guys.Sadly I posted from the comfort of my bed last night, and am now off to work, but will have a go at all these suggestions this evening.I didn't try selecting menu in windowed mode Peter, so will definately give that a go.Al.
  16. Current games do not take advantage of quad core processors. The gamers choice at the moment is dual core.As for graphics cards in SLI and Crossfire, this is a VERY touchy subject for gamers. A recent test in a PC magazine that I read last month, put a vast array of nVidia and ATI cards against each other in SLI/Crossfire mode...the result was shocking. Only one of the cards (and it wasn't a 9800 from what I recall) showed any kind of overall performance gain. The tests were very varied, at different resolutions, different tasks/games etc, but all in all, I was shocked by the results.Sadly the lastest and greatest (on paper) hardware setup doesn't guarentee good results, in any game/sim.Regards,Al.
  17. Many thanks for the replies.I have nhancer installed, so will set up a profile and see how far that goes to sorting the problem.Nice to know that its not just me, and I'm sure with some investigation and following of advice, that the problem can be rectified.Al.
  18. Hi everyone.I took delivery of my new PC a month ago, and took the opportunity to migrate to FSX from FS2004.My new system is a Core Duo E8400 @ 3.0Ghz, 4Gb of RAM, and a 1024Mb 8800GT, running XP Pro.I was prepared for the fact that even on this fantastic system, FSX may still not run at med-high settings without significant tweaking. However I was very pleasantly suprised to find that it runs like dream, with no tweaking whatsoever, and on pretty high settings.I've spent three weeks enjoying the visual beauty of flying in FSX, and loved every minute of it. Until a couple of days ago that is...Now, whenever I bring up the menu with 'alt', as soon as I select a menu item, the sim freezes. No hard drive activity, no nothing. It simply freezes. Left alone it would appear it will remain like that until we've long since populated our neighbouring planets...The only way to solve the issue is to tab out to desktop, or alternatively ctrl-alt-delete to task manager, and then double click on FSX in task manager. FSX then pops back up at the menu item originally selected. This process must be repeated whenever I select a menu item, which as you can imagine is soul destroyingly tedious, not to mention bewildering given that its been fine up until the last day or two.I've changed no hardware, I've not installed or uninstalled any programmes. I can think of nothing that would have precipitated the change in FSX.Whats more, today I uninstalled/reinstalled FSX - and the problem persists!Any help most appreciated!Regards,Al.P.S. Computers are my hobby, so I can assure you drivers/hardware configs are as they should be...
  19. I just took delivery of a custom built PC two weeks ago, with a very similar spec to what your considering. I'd been running the same P4 3.0Ghz for 6 years.New system is an E8400 on an Asus P5K SE, although I went for 4 gig of RAM, and 1024MB 8800GT.It runs FSX on fairly high settings with great ease, so I think you'll find your system will run FS9 like a dream on max settings.Hope you enjoy your new PC...I know I'm enjoying mine.Regards,Al.
  20. Hi everyone.Aside from seeing the visual beauty of FSX in the screenshot forum on a fairly regular basis since its release, and reading the for/against arguments throughout the same time period, I have paid little attention to FSX related discussion.I've had a Dell P4 3Ghz PC since 2002, so FSX was never really on the agenda for me. However, after 6 years and thousands of hours of service, its being retired at some stage in the coming week, as I take delivery of a custom built Core Duo E8400 based system, with 4 gig of ram and a meaty 1024MB 8800GT.I've been simming since FS98, and my FS2004 installation is brimming with fantastic addon's, both freeware and payware. But I've not flown a single second in FSX. I've not even seen it in action...screenshots being the limit of my FSX familiarity.I'm hoping my new system will run FSX to a satisfactory level, and basically wondered what I can expect when I install a sim that has seemingly divided the FS community into two very distinct camps!I must apologise that my question is not particularly clear! I guess I simply want to know whether FSX, in the time since its release, has lived up to expectations, and is now able to run smoothly with the latest wave of processors and GPU's?I am definately looking forward to it...I think!Regards,Al.
  21. Many thanks for that filename. I've picked it up from avsim.ru.I was aware of Gary V doing Sheremetyevo, but not Domodedovo, so many thanks!I'll get it installed, and I am sure it will be a vast improvement on the default scenery.Al.
  22. On the older POSKY 74's, I believe the wing flex animation was tied entirely to the main gear animation at touch down, and as far as I know this was the standard manner of implementing wing flex for most gmax/FSDS modellers ('tied' is perhaps not the best word to describe it - really it was simply all part of the same animation). Obviously this method only allowed for movement when the gear was moving, so apart from take-off and landing the wings stayed in their respective positions. Then came the advent of XML programming, which I would not pretend to understand, sufficed to say that it allows for many aspects of flight sim aircraft animation and realism to be independantly programmed.Presumably these methods are affected in different ways by replays, recording, and so on, and beyond future developments, perhaps these limitations cannot be worked around. Some of the best wing flex action I have seen recently, is on the SCS Tupolev 134. In turbulence the animation is absolutely brilliant. This is obviously XML programming.Regards,Al.
  23. Hi everyone.I dislike having to say anything bad about commercial vendors when they plainly produce a good product, but for whatever reason have neglected to check whether people are still buying it, and thus provide support/answer emails etc. But there are no excuses, you take someones money, you should give them the product.I purchased the Moscow Domodedovo scenery from www.igfly.com nearly three weeks ago. I never received any emails from them whatsoever, and thus no download links etc. I log into their website, but it does not recognise me as a customer, thus I cannot get to their downloads page (if such a thing exists). In the subsequent time period, I have emailed them several times, posted at avsim.ru requesting help in contacting them, pm'd some admins who are affiliated with Igfly at the avsim.ru forums, requested SWREG (the online payment company who process the payments for the Igfly products) to contact them (which they have tried, without success), emailed the DBS Studio guys, who produce Walk & Follow, which is still advertised on the Igfly website. None of these avenues of contact have yielded any results.I admit that Igfly's products are a couple of years old, so presumably aren't flying out of their online shop on a daily basis. But if they still take payments, they should still be checking their emails at least weekly. So, I guess my advice is steer well clear of Igfly. I believe SWREG will refund my money, although to be fair to them, they have no way of knowing that I am not simply lying about having not received download links etc.Anyone know of any decent freeware Domodedovo sceneries?!Regards,Al.
  24. Hi again Jim.After a week of having the occasional 'fiddle' with settings, I had resolved myself to trying to ignore the lack of a satisfactory visibility at altitude. However, this morning I unchecked 'Depict FS Haze', unchecked 'Limit Cloud Layers', and as I climbed through 12,000' I had to take a second glance as despite relatively little cloud cover, the horizon was wonderfully invisible, shrouded in a sweet haze! Currently cruising at around 21,000' and the horizon has stayed obscured by my vis, set only at 19, but I figure I could increase that now that the problem has been solved. My guess is that it was definately the FS Haze setting. Prior to unchecking this, on top of seeing the horizon above 12,000', there was a huge ugly grey band just above the horizon, which has now vanished, leaving Activesky to depict its own wonderful vis.Anyway, thought I'd let you know Jim, and many thanks for the usual great support. Now I just need to make an exact note of my settings for any future reference!Regards,Al.
