  1. I was checking the screenshots of this scenery only yesterday, over at the simFlight forums...wondering when it was going to be released! Low and behold this morning, here it is!Glacier Bay and this fine scenery package, both in one weekend! - heaven!Regards,Al.
  2. I really struggle to think of any examples that justify your question. Perhaps I just haven't seen them, if there are.99% of the payware addon aircraft I own has an amazing VC. Aeroworx B200, Digital Aviation Dornier and Cheyenne, Sibwings Saab Safir, Level-D 767, PMDG 747, ALL the Carenado aircraft...the list goes on.Not to mention the INFINITE quality of VC's in David Maltby's BAC-111, and Trident...and these are freeware. If its only military aircraft you fly, then perhaps you own Alphasim aircraft, and similar. If this is the case, then yes, you probably are seeing a differing quality in VC's. They throw out an aircraft every couple of months it seems, and whilst I am sure they are fun and enjoyable to fly, the downside is that the VC's and so on, are not at the absolute cutting edge. Realair on the other hand, have only done a handful of aircraft...thus more time and energy is put into the modelling, and thus the end product is of a far higher quality.Regards,Al.
  3. As an owner of countless payware addons (including Eaglesoft, as well as FSD), I have to say I had NO idea it was even possible to obtain pirated Flight Sim addons! I guess I imagined nobody amongst the simming fraternity would stoop to attempting to get hold of 'free' copies of commercial addons, much less actually have the audacity to 'crack' it in the first place. Presumably this is a naive thought.Given that this topic has become quite lengthy, I would reiterate my statements from earlier in the thread, that I myself never had a problem with FSD, or my purchases from them - and that I will be most tempted by their Saratoga when it is released. It is also good that Tim has stated that they did make mistakes in the past, but are keen to rectify them. Hopefully simmers who were unfortunate enough to have had a bad experience, can solve the problem now.Regards,Al.
  4. Many thanks Gary, I'll do that.Although from todays investigation, it would seem the reason that I can't get the AP to work, is that it DOESN'T work...a LITTLE bit of false advertising on Nemeth's part there I think. But its nevertheless a great addon, and perhaps I'll see if I can't fire a 3rd party AP into it.
  5. Indeed, my vote would go on a Carenado offering, either the 206 (for the sheer fun and diversity of a rough and ready workhorse that also makes a fantastic speedy tourer!), or the 182 (sleek and fun!).But I also have the Safir (wonderful!), and the SF.260 (great, but not as easy to handle as the Carenado Cessna's) - and they are fantastic aircraft too!Regards,Al.
  6. Hello everyone,It is indeed a rarity for me to ask for technical help with an aircraft system (or in this case helicopter, system!). I sometimes secretly give myself a rather silly, and self gratifying pat on the back knowing that due to my aviation training I can usually use a complex system model with little or no reference to the manual!I recently bought the Nemeth Designs Mil-17, and absolutely love it (not generally a lover of helicopters - just not my thing - until now!).However, the AP system has got me stumped. The Nemeth manual is sadly rather inadeqate - whilst it contains details of all the systems/switches etc, it contains no procedures. And no amount of messing around with the AP will get it to work. So, if anyone has this beauty, and is using the AP successfully, perhaps they could give me some pointers!Regards,Al.EDIT - I have just managed to locate the Nemeth forum at the simFlight forums, so perhaps I better ask there! Although it looks like I'm not the first to have problems with it.
  7. I owned the FSD Cheyenne, Porter, Seneca, Navajo, Aerostar and also the Avanti.I reformatted my system back in September, and as of yet, have not reinstalled any of these products. Strangely I don't really know why. Granted I do not have any of my order numbers, since these were amongst my first FS2004 payware purchases. Added to which, some of the models are now V2, and thus I believe I would have to pay for the upgrade.FSD aircraft certainly have quality written all over them, and I myself have never had issues with them, or with FSD themselves. But I do wonder why I am not clamouring to reinstall them...Regards,Al.
  8. Odd business decision indeed. I have long been a Captain Sim supporter, pretty much on the basis that they DO provide some of the most incredible modelling to be seen in FS. I myself have never had the headaches with support that many customers have had, and thus my view was never tarnished by that issue.Their 727 provided me with literally months (almost years) of enjoyment when it was released. But I have to say that it doesn't see much air time nowadays. I remained a CS supporter because I knew I would love the C-130, which I did. It remains their crowning glory. I own many other CS products, but was indeed looking forward to a 727 update.I can't really see what makes Captain Sim tick nowadays. I remember when after the C-130, the next release was due to be the F-117A Nighthawk! Followed by the 767! And lest we forget when they showed us screenshots of all the aircraft they had in development...and there were loads! An F-18 (I think?!), Mig-29, SR-71 Blackbird, and countless others. One could argue that all these models were shelved (or delayed) due to them being released by other developers...but if Captain Sim's alternative is to then develop an FSX only update for the 727, I think they lost their way!Regards,Al.
  9. Virtual cockpits/cabins are coded into the model file, and thus are always there.I believe you can get rid of them by modifying the model file using a programme like a Hex editor, and some people succeed in doing so, but I assume this takes some knowledge of model files.Regards,Al.
  10. I had a look at their page, but definately hanging on for the PMDG version.
  11. >too bad they still haven't mastered the fine art of crafting>the VC...it would make the Fokkers master pieces.. It is rare for me to feel the need to 'pass comment on the comments' of my fellow Avsim members, but I really feel the need to state my utter amazement at need to post apparent 'disappointment at the lack of a VC' from some members.I am cursing myself at adding to what will no doubt turn into a flame war, but it is a mystery to me how anyone can make ANY kind of negative comment about this FREE release. And yes, a 'disappointment' does constitute a 'negative' comment for me.How does the inclusion of a VC in 'other' first rate freeware releases, dictate that THIS freeware release should also include a VC?! If there are a set of guidelines, or as some would seem to think, RULES - that freeware developers should work to, please give me a link?! I would be particularly interested in the paragraph that states - 'thou shalt include a fully functional virtual cockpit, for fear that thou shalt deny the expectations of the flight simulation community'.Furthermore, what evidence (and I really look forward to the reply here) is there that the PF team have not 'mastered the fine art of crafting the VC'?!!! I have never crafted a coffee table, but are we to assume that I lack the skills to do so with confidence and success?!!!Of course, as members of the free world, we can all state our opinions, disappointments, and so on. But IF I felt as some people do about the 'lack' of a VC in this release, I would have kept it to myself, rather than illustrating how ungracious I am.Also, I would draw attention to the following line from the Project Fokker website..."Where are the FMC and VC?The real F28 does not have an FMC. This v1 base package does not include a VC."V1, does not include a VC. Perhaps our disappointed friends will be as happy as the rest of us, with the release of V2 or V3?! Which, I have no doubt, will be FREE updates.I am frankly shocked at the retort to John's reply, ref his sex life?! It pains me that anyone on these forums, where we are all supposed to share a common hobby, would make such statements.John, thank you for initiating this post on the Project Fokker release, and I am glad we are all enjoying it! (And may I say that I have not forgotten your help with the FFS Saab VC issue! Eternally grateful!)Regards,Al.
  12. Think I got out of bed on the wrong side this morning. Been feeling a bit grouchy! Sunday syndrome?! But after checking Avsim front page just now, my mood has ascended to much loftier heights! It is indeed a slow download, but in half an hour I should be in heaven! Can't wait!Al.
  13. I too reformatted my PC back back in October. Upon reinstalling FS9 I was presented with the unenviable task of contacting the developers of the rather large amount of commercial addons I have.Carenado were particularly slow to respond, and I recall posting on the forums here asking much the same thing as you have done.Sufficed to say, they did eventually get back to me, with new download links. I would have said it well over a week, and I did send a couple of emails chasing them up, before I received my reply.I am sure your friend will eventually get a reply.Regards,Al.
  14. BUY BUY BUY!Has anyone ever actually SEEN a bad word spoken about ActiveSky? I know I never have.I think it was my first payware product actually, and its the one I could never live without. It literally ROCKS my FS experience! And as has been stated above, the support is without a doubt the best you could hope for!I hereby make a massive shout to everyone involved in giving us the fantastic product that is....Active Sky.Regards,Al.
  15. Leon Seale did an update of Bill's 120 panel, filename gsemb120a.zip, however, it was intended for FS2002, and the readme states that some of the gauges won't work in FS9. I can't locate an FS9 update either, so I am just using the default King Air panel.Regards,Al.
  16. >I'll talk to Daniel as soon as he's online about uploading his>factory repaint (as well as all his others).>>I'm getting all my EMB-120 repaints ready for upload>too...just in time for a Merry Christmas for all you simmers.>:)>>>Regards,>Steve DraExcellent news Steve. I will look foward to that!Regards,Al.
  17. Hi everyone,Having just downloaded the freeware EMB-120, from now defunct Online Simulation Solutions. I wondered if anyone knew if the Embraer house livery, which the file library pictures depict, is available anywhere?Regards,Al.
  18. If someone told me I could only keep one of my addon's, it would, without the SLIGHTEST doubt, be Activesky. I don't believe you can quantify the change it makes to FS. Whenever I load up FS, my excitment is mainly to see what beautiful skyscapes Activesky is going to present me with!Of course its important to have the right settings! But its easy to find instructions for the best setup in Activesky options on the forums here!Get it, you won't be disappointed!Regards,Al.
  19. Just wondering if there has been an official announcement from OSS regarding their shutting up shop?I recall a thread a few weeks ago, in which they said they were preparing an official statement about it. Just wandering if I have missed it, or if anyone knows where it will appear? My interest stems mainly from the fact that I have their fantastic Shoreham scenery, and I am keen to know about how they will furnish us with a permanent key or whatever.Such a shame when talented developers don't feel they can carry on.I was dreaming of owning their Dornier, I wish I'd saved all the screenshots before they were taken off their site, just so I could admire it on the screen forever!Regards,Al.
  20. Hi everyone.I am running a Dell 8300, P4 3.0 HT enabled, 1 Gb RAM, 120 Gb SATA HD (came with the system back in 2002, so prob quite dated), Radeon X800XT Platinum Edition.Amazingly for a system that is 4 years old, it still runs FS9 pretty #### well, with everything maxed. I have recently done a complete system format, so aside from FS9, its pretty empty, thus not too clogged up with countless programmes that never get used!I won't be getting a new system for at least a year, so am thinking of one last upgrade for this old workhorse. Its had two previous upgrades, the X800XT, and also a memory upgrade. When I did the memory upgrade, which was straight after I bought the system, I whipped the 512 meg Dimm out, and sold it, installing two 512 meg modules, obtained from a reputable overclockers site. I forget the particulars of them, or even the manufacturer! However, I believe they were 'frequency matched'(??), which apparently made them better? So, for the sake of FS9, and my wallet, I figure a boost to 2 gig memory would be a good move? Anyone agree? I realise there are many factors to consider, but to give some idea of where I am coming from, the motherboard isn't PCI-Express, thus a graphics card upgrade is limited (not to mention very expensive). PERHAPS I could get a better CPU, but where does one go from the 3.0 Ghz P4? Whats the fastest P4 that would fit straight onto my mobo?Back to the memory! Should I pull the 2 512 meg modules, sell them, and buy two 1 gig modules from say Cruicial or someone similar, or should I just get to 512's and throw them into the two extra slots with my other memory? Are there performance drops from having all 4 slots full, when you could just use two if you were using 1 gig modules? Not to mention the fact that it would be 2 modules from one manufacturer, and 2 from another.Longwinded and vague? Sorry if my post reads that way! But any help appreciated!Regards,Al.
  21. Hi,I have read on numerous occasions how swift and efficient the Aerosim support is, and that emails are generally returned very quickly.I emailed Aerosim last week, and as of yet, have had no reply. Anyone else had similar problems? Should I try again?Regards,Al.
  22. Yeah, I have to say I cringe whenever I see a Perfect Flight product advertised on the front page of Avsim. Judging from the screenshots, its amazing that they actually sell enough to stay in business. Obviously very low overheads!
  23. I think this is the one the team at Samdim are also helping out on? Thus slowing up progress of their own payware An-12 and Tu-134! Looking forward to all these projects...if they get them completed.
