  1. Morning all,My apologies if this is old news. But the rate at which the FSX threads move is fairly swift, so forgive me if I am stating something that everyone else already knows!I just saw FSX Deluxe edition in HMV, Bracknell.
  2. Morning all!I purchased the Digital Aviation Cheyenne last week, and am thrilled with it. An abundance of variants, wonderfully modelled, and with some lovely features! My question regards the rather nifty 'dust/dirt' effect from the wheels, when operating on unpaved surfaces! Where would this be coded? And thus, would it be possible to apply the affect to some of my other aircraft?Any comments welcome!Regards,Al.
  3. Success!I received an email yesterday evening, with the links to download 3 of my 5 Carenado aircraft. It seems that only 3 were registered to my email address, so I've mailed back with details of my old email, and hopefully then I may be able to get the other two as well! Not overly fussed about the lack of the Bonanza, as its a little dated now, but I still love the C210, so would like to get that reinstalled! The setups are now safely backed-up!
  4. Hi Graeme,Sadly not! I have about 10 700mb CD's with the last 3 years worth of FS2004 freeware and payware packages and downloads, but after searching them thoroughly, I can find absolutely none of my Carenado .exe's. The only thing I have is the C206 extension pack, but that was bought from SimMarket fairly recently.I have sent another email, so hopefully there will be a response sometime soon!Regards,Al.
  5. Hi guys,I need to download all my Carenado GA aircraft, replacement keys etc, for reinstallation, but am getting no reply from them.Unfortunately their addons weren't available at the likes of SimMarket or Flight1 at the time I purchased them, so they were all purchased and downloaded directly from the Carenado website. Otherwise reinstallation would be somewhat easier!Does anyone have any experience of their support? Perhaps they are just busy and a bit behind with support replies? But it has been quite a few days.Regards,Al.
  6. Hi again Walter.I myself just did a clean format and reinstall, without the use of any other cleaning applications. From what I have read about formatting and reinstalling windows on the web, it strikes me there is plainly no way of ever satisfying everyones view on what constitutes a completely painless and totally thorough wiping of a previous installation!I didn't feel the need to disconnect my HD, jam it in a bench vice and take an angle-grinder to the disk surfaces! (Huge exaggeration here, but it just seems that there are so many processes one can go through to 'alledgedly' come out the other side with a completely clean HD!) So with that in mind, I simply did what I was capable of! :)Al.
  7. Its a simple process Walter, although one which is perhaps best investigated via the web! For instance, even though I knew it would be a simple process, I printed out some step by step instructions which I found online. There are numerous sites offering guides to a reinstall. But basically, once you have your full version Windows XP CD, you change your boot order in setup, so that initial boot is from your CD drive. Insert the XP CD, and reboot. Follow onscreen instructions to format and reinstall Windows. Its as simple as that, but as I say, I felt happier with some printed instructions in my hand to follow!Regards,Al.
  8. Hi John,Yes, as you say, the idea of trying to simply 'spring clean' my system was a daunting one, so infact the
  9. Jim,Thanks for your help with this problem the other week. I did a complete reformat and reinstall of XP etc on my system over the weekend. Computer running like a new machine now! However, this runtime error happened again over the weekend, but I quickly managed to deduce the cause. The programme in question is 'Webroot Spy Sweeper'. A great little application, but when it does its initial sweep on bootup, it finds something that is says is a 'Virtual Bouncer'. It claims there are 10 registry entries, which obviously refers to ChilkatZip2.dll's entries. Anyway, I have now told it to always ignore these entries, and bob's your uncle, no more problems with the ActiveSky runtime error!Just thought you may be interested in this little snippet of info. Thanks again for the recent help Jim.Regards,Al.
  10. Greetings one and all,Well, what a weekend! Bit the bullet Thursday, and went to PC World and bought a copy of XP Home, just the quick
  11. Hi Jim,Thanks for the reply. I have searched for a setup.exe file, but don't seem to be able to find one. I've been lookng in the ASv6 folder in the fs9 modules folder? What form of purchase info do you need? I have been using ActiveSky since the 2004 version, so I think that my email address on your file (if you have one) will be long out of date, and I don't seem to be able to find any purchase info in my text docs. Thanks again for the help.Regards,Al.
  12. Hi,I have been having dreadful problems with spy/adware in the last few days, and am physically tired after spending hours eradicating it all! Sadly ActiveSky appears to be the first (and probably not the last!) victim of my unrelenting and somewhat over-zealous deleting of all suspicious files.Upon running AS6, I am given an error message saying 'Run-time error 339: Component 'ChilkatZip2.dll' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.'Is there an easy solution for this problem, or is the easiest solution to reinstall ActiveSky?If the answer is yes, could I please enquire as to the procedure for downloading AS6 again, and retrieving a new key. Many thanks!Best Regards,Al.
  13. Hey all,I seem to be at the point where a complete format of my PC is long overdue, and would probably end many of the little niggles that it occasionally turns up! But what a daunting idea it is!Were it not for my FS2004 installation, I would do it tomorrow. Bye bye 120 gig of information...I won't miss you...ah, hello fresh and speedy, uncluttered system! But oh god if the idea of uninstalling FS and all my NUMEROUS addons, is a scary one! Freeware is not such an issue. We can all download and install that which is free again! But I have countless payware addons, and the task is a daunting one....identify them all, email everyone to request download links/keys etc. Ouch! So, am I whining?! Perhaps so! But it just seems a big task! Yet one which I know would be beneficial. After all FSX is only a month away, and doubtless I will buy it, despite my love and affection for FS9, and all my various addons. So should I perhaps view this as an omen? A push in the back towards the definite purchase of FSX and the resignation that FS9 should be discarded, even if its never forgotten!I shall have to give it some thought!Regards,Al.
  14. I certainly didn't intend to start of a debate with regard to the Safir! I have to say that it did occur to me as I pressed the 'post' button, that there may have been a discussion of the aircraft in question already present, but figured that as it wasn't on the first page, I'd still post an enthusiastic report!I have since noticed the package has been retracted from sale for the time being. It is indeed sad that due to acts of piracy, this great product is currently unavailable to those who have not been fortunate enough to purchase it.Regards,Al.
  15. Having just interupted a wonderful flight in this magical little aircraft, I thought I would jump in here to give anyone who may have missed it a quick heads up.It is very easy to bypass news on the Avsim front page, if its something that we aren't actually expecting, or contains names of developers, or even aircraft(!), that we haven't heard of. With that in mind, I definately missed this little gem! Wasn't until I saw a post in the screenshots forum a couple of days ago featuring this awesome model, that I went to the website and checked it out. I didn't purchase it immediately, but a few hours later went back for another look...I'm glad I did!At 20 euros, I think its fantastic value. The 4 models are based on real life aircraft, and as such, you get 4 completely individual aircraft. The subtle (and also not so subtle!) differences are best seen in the VC, which is (or rather 'are', plural, not singular!) absolutely amazing. Lots of wonderful little features which immerse you in the pure pleasure of flying this lovely little aircraft. The sounds are wonderful, the handling superb, the model brilliant. Well done to a team I had never heard of, for bringing me an aircraft I was unfamiliar with, but am glad to say is currently my favorite GA aircraft! It can be found at http://www.sibwings.com/It won't disappoint anyone!Regards,Al.
  16. I would pay any money (within reason!) to have a Carenado quality Britten-Norman (BN2) Islander.Ah....I can dream!Al.
  17. Hi guys,Could anyone point me to the pdf manual containing the password for unpacking the updates, just got the L10 update 4, and although I've installed the previous updates I can't for the life of me remember where I found the password. To reiterate, I don't want the password, simply a map to where the pdf is containing the password! Many thanks!Al.
  18. Wow, was a little shocked by that Ed, as there are so many great pictures of the RAF 'Timmys' on Airliners.net, but after a minute or so, I realised that your fantastic repaints are photoreal, so does that mean you actually need high quality close ups of the entire aircraft in sections before you do a repaint?I took a stack of pictures of a KC1 at RIAT 2003, but looking at them now, they don't appear to me to be any better than many of the ones on a.net, perhaps closer, but they don't cover the entire aircraft, particularly the tail assembly, which is one of your photoreal specialities from what I have seen! Oh well, heres hoping you manage to lay your hands on some in the future!Regards,Al.
  19. I have the Aerosim model, and can only reiterate the comments from Ed and everyone else here about how she is an absolutely wonderful model, simply beautiful, just like the real bird. How much the rest of the package appeals will depend on what the customer is expecting, or moreover what they desire from an aircraft addon. The panel and systems are perfectly adequate, but as Ed says, nowhere near the more advanced systems modelled in the more complex addons that are available for FS2004, both freeware and payware.I love flying her from the VC. The VC textures are perhaps not as advanced as some addons, but the bar has been set very high by many developers, so its all down to opinion. This wouldn't bother Ed as he doesn't fly from the VC - his panel creations are too good (if elusive!).As everyone has said, the Aerosim customer support, and constant updates, make this package a real winner! If I had a gripe it MAY be the FDE. I am a pilot, albeit not on anything as big as an L1011, but to this day I still have the pleasure of flying on the RAF Tristars every once in a while! (Highlight of my year! Deplaning from a realworld Tristar is always sad, even if I am arriving home in the southern hemisphere!) ...back to the point, the FDE acceleration, and initial climb rate on rotation seem a bit 'over enthusiastic'...although I don't think I have seen many other complaints of this nature, so perhaps I am in a minority with this little concern! But leaving that aside, she is simply brilliant!Long live the L1011, my favorite aircraft (along with the VC-10 and the BN2 Islander!)Regards,Al. P.S. Ed, you still considering an RAF repaint at some stage?! I know there are nice ones in the library, but just wondered if maybe you were still considering producing one of your masterpieces!?
  20. Wow! Now theres something strange! LITERALLY this morning I flew Milton's original 520 for a matter of 5 minutes, whilst considering which aircraft I may delete from my massive FS2004 'hanger'. I'm afraid to say that it was definately for the chop, as I simply don't fly it anymore. But as I ended my flight I did think to myself that it would be a different story if an updated version was released......dropping into the forums this evening and the first post that catches my eye is this one. A quick search of the library reveals the new 520!Thanks for the heads up!Regards,Al.
  21. Greetings one and all.I have been offline for the past 4 or 5 months, and although have still been doing plenty of hours of FS2004, I feel distinctly out of touch with whats new in the world of Avsim and flightsimming!I've already picked up on the release of Rick Piper's incredible revamp of his HS.748. Well done Rick, its an absolute beauty! But aside from that is there anything else I should be making frantic attempts to download?!Looking forward to any pointers! Its nice to be back here in the forums!Best regards,Al.
  22. THIS, is what I am looking forward to!http://www.fsatcn.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=194http://www.fsatcn.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=181http://www.fsatcn.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=183An awesome looking Dornier 228 from Online Simulation Solutions.Hope they get it finished at some stage. I can imagine its a tough process for a group creating their first 'aircraft' project. But from the look of the screenshots, they are doing fine!Regards,Al.
  23. Outstanding work from Mr Maltby yet again.Wonder if he will bless us by creating a VC for his awesome VC-10!Oooooh, the thought of it gives me goose bumps!
  24. Cheers for the heads-up on this release. I have purchased, and installed. Looks fantastic from the screenshots.Like the previous poster, I too enjoy flying real world weather and time, and thus having just fired up FS and ActiveSky, I find that sitting at Vancouver Intl, I am in pretty unpleasant conditions! Overcast, low vis, and rain!I guess my first forays around this superb scenery are going to be somewhat limited!Anyway, I am off back into FS to get airborne!Regards,Al.
  25. Love these GA topics!I have the Aeroworx B200, and frankly think its absolutely amazing. The visual model and level of 'immersion' when flying from the VC are second to none. Also love Carenado's offerings. Particularly the 182, and the 210 (although its perhaps in need of an update). I also own the Cherokee, which is brilliant, but I tend to want 'working' aircraft, rather than trainers/tourers, so its not getting so much air time recently. But then again, thats not to suggest it isn't great, it is, but I just spend lengthy periods on one type of flying, and its currently cargo/passenger type runs with more powerful GA workhorses. Going to get the 206 later today I think. Also love the RealAir SF.260, fabulous plane to mess around in, and a joy to fly. Also beautiful to look at of course. The Dreamfleet Beech twin is absolutely superb too. Love that.I am thinking I may get the Cirrus from Eaglesoft too, despite my current love of 'workhorses'!Ah, so much pleasure to be derived from FS!Regards,Al.
