February 28, 201313 yr It seems I've uninentionally removed a part of C++ How do I know exactly which parts and versions of these are essencial for FSX and it's addons? There seems to masses of them. It also seems that regardless of running a 64bit machine, I still nees both x86 AND x64 versions - correct? February 28, 201313 yr FSX/Acceleration and FSX addons require MSV C++ 2005 w/SP1, 2008 w/SP1, and 2010. FSX/Acceleration specifically require MSV 2005 w/SP1. You remove any of these from your Add/Remove Programs and FSX/Acceleration and/or Addons will fail to start up. The MSV's are used by developers to make sure their product installs the way it was intended and runs properly. Since FSX is a 32 bit program, it will only use the X86 versions. If you have the 64 bit versions installed that's okay as some other program you installed (not FSX related) installed them. MSV's are installed with each product you install on your computer (if the version is not found on your system). There have been many updates, especially for the MSV 2005 (mainly security related but required). Many of your addons will look for certain versions. This is the latest version - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347 . MSV's are not backward compatible. Dotnet's are required to properly manage and run your product in the way the developers programmed it to run on your computer, to include managing memory. For FSX and FSX related addons, you need dotnet 1.1 through 4.5. You can check the versions you have by going to C:\Windows\Microsoft.net\Framework\(the various versions installed). There is a neat tool to make sure your versions are properly installed - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx . For FSX/FSX addons you must install the x86 version as FSX is a 32 bit program. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! February 28, 201313 yr The libraries that FSX itself requires are on one or other of the installation DVD's. FS is a 32 bit app, so the only version it needs is the x86. Doug
