Snap to View in 3D - how ?

Greetings - Can someone provide guidance please. I did spent a few hours attempting to solve this without success.

 

The snap view function in numpad. Where you can select a key and the view takes you to the left, right, etc immediately and then when you let the key go returns you to forward view.

 

In 2D view this works OK, but in 3D view I cannot get this work correctly.

 

Does anyone know a workaround?

3D views are only possible with the 'top hat' control.

I don't think it works in VC. You can get EZDoc to solve that problem, though.

F9, F10 and F11 will snap to various views, as will as the A key, and you can center the view in VC by control-space.
