September 6, 200421 yr Has anyone been able to put a working autopilot in the Vickers Vimy? Adding an new autopilot window to panel.cfg worked, but there must be something wrong with my autopilot section (or something else) in aircraft.cfg. Activating the autopilot just sends it down to the ground. The flight director, altitude hold, etc. don't work either. I want the autopilot to follow my flight plan in the Garmin GPS. I am going from England to Australia. Working autopilots in the other vintage planes would be helpful too.I posted this at http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/DC...ID21/17445.html but did not get an answer yet. I just now know how to add pitch trim.
September 6, 200421 yr Not trying to sound derogatory, but why an autopilot in an aircraft like the Vickers? Personally, the appeal of flying a vintage aircraft is actually flying it; i.e. the way it was meant to be flown. Alcock and Brown didn't have one. And I'm guessing the copy that attempted the flight in 1994 didn't have one, although they did have GPS assist. Kinda takes the skill out of such a feat, doesn't it? Don't get me wrong, here. I hope you get it it work. We all enjoy this hobby for different things... Rick
September 6, 200421 yr Others said the same thing at flightsimnetwork. I will fly it without aids sometime, but for now I want to have a working autopilot.
September 6, 200421 yr According to the FS9 Learning Centre a fully loaded Vimy has an initial rate of climb of 1000ft/HOUR (yes HOUR). It's just not going to respond effectively to an autopilot. You might try changing the autopilot parameters in aircraft.cfg but I wouldn't hold out much hope. Gerry Howard
September 6, 200421 yr The autopilot in FS controls pitch (wrongly) by use of the elvator trim. I don't think the Vimy has a trim system by default, so it sounds like you need a new flight model as well as a a/p.Frankly, I'd just fly the Vega!Allcott
September 7, 200421 yr I had added pitch trim in the aircraft.cfg and autopilot still did not work. Does adding an autopilot require something special in the .air file? I should be able to put it on course and let the autopilot do minor adjustments.
