March 11, 201313 yr Hi guys, I have been assigned to do a build for an organisation which has not much ideas about how important power is to FS. Thus I have figured with the limitations that's been put on me, I am going with an FS9 build. As I have just been researching on absolute top-end components for FSX, I am not so great with FS9 (middle/lower end) components. So please tell me whether this can run FS9 with simple simple addons any good? CPU: i3 3220 3.0GHz GFX: Asus GT630 1GB RAM: Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) 1333MHz MB: Asus P8Z77-M.Z77 uATX HDD: WD 500GB SATA3 Cavier Blue Case: Huntkey XM1002 PSU: Corsair VS450 Essentially I have the budget of having the computer for less than $500, and I was able to get it down to $476. Will this run FS9 smoothly? Or are there anything out of the ordinary that you can see? Thanks in advanced Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
March 11, 201313 yr Looks OK - I think the 3220 is 3.3Ghz. Possibly consider a cheaper motherboard and spending the difference going to a GT640 !?!
March 11, 201313 yr Author Any suggestions with the MB? Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
March 12, 201313 yr Author How's this board? http://umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=177&bid=2&sid=92150 Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
March 12, 201313 yr I don't have any experience with ASRock boards but a colleague at work has one and is happy with it, and this looks fine for a no frills MATX board, not much in the way of full on reviews but looking at user comments seems to reveal that most people are pretty happy with the boards performance given the price. I did read one review that said to make sure the RAM is on the approved list and another that said loading Win8 was a pain as the driver CD was Win7 only and the board required a manual BIOS update for Win8.
March 12, 201313 yr Author Well we were planning to go for WinXP to be honest, but it's so hard to find WinXP and the support goes out at the end of the year. So we still decided to go with Win7. With the RAM, thanks for the heads up, I surely didn't see that review. Will do some more digging. Cheers, Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
March 13, 201313 yr Hi, I have built two PC´s lately with Asrock boards. I really like them and the UEFI, and my next build (Haswell) would be with an Asrock board as well. Go for a Z77 Extreme4. Regarding RAM, stick to 2x2 GB on the Qualified Vendor list, should be reasonably cheap. If you plan on using high definition cloud addon´s like REX FS2004, and want to reduce shimmer completely in trees, fences etc through Inspector, do get a proper GPU. Even in FS9, my GTX 570 sometimes becomes the bottleneck in heavily clouded areas. I wouldn´t go below a GTX 660. I would also recommend a more powerful PSU, and at least a semimodular one. Regarding OS; Windows 7-64 bit, no doubt about it. BR, Anders

March 14, 201313 yr Does this all fit within $500 including case, PSU and everything? Because $500 is the budget... Hardly. Of course you can go below - especially if you go default, your first proposal would be ok. Just don´t expect to get the full potential out of FS9 with modern addon´s. My experience though is, that in long term, it is expensive to compromise and buy cheap. BR, Anders

BR, Anders Yea I understand, as I just spent a large amount of money on an FSX machine. This 500 budget is for an organisation, so it's not up to me how much I spend. Thanks for the advice though!
