What Skylake MB´s are you using?
Anderscn replied to Anderscn's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcHi Thank you for the input. I really want a no-nonsense solid motherboard with a strong VRM for the CPU to keep it cool with a decent OC. As FSX only can benefit fron one GPU, I don't need 4 pci slots. As I also plan to get one big SSD for the OS and sim+addons, I don't need 8 sata connections either. The more I think of it, the Asus Sabertooth comes into my shortlist.. Or maybe the Asus Maximus Gene. Best regards Anders

How to get latest version?
Ok, I found out. Just download again from my FSS order page.. BR, Anders

What Skylake MB´s are you using?
Hi, I am about to start simming again after a couple of years pause. I am going to build a new Skylake PC around a 6600k CPU, a GTX980 and a couple of fast G.Skill Trident Z sticks. My previous PC´s have been built with Asrock boards, that served me well - somehow I have sweet spot for Asrock. What are you using? As I like longhaul flights with the CS 777 for instance, longevity/durability is important for me. I will be using FSX/DX10. BR, Anders

How to get latest version?
Hi, I have been away from simming for a couple of years, and I am now about to start up again with a new Skylake PC. My last used version of the program was 2.4. I bought it from FSS, that no longer sell the program. So, how do I get the latest version? I know that others may have asked about this before - but what have you done? BR, Anders

Read the manual....and reap the benefits (Version 2.6)
Good to hear that the i5/GTX970 can deal with 8xSGSS, as I'm split with myself if I should take the 970 or 980 in my next hardware upgrade. What resolution is your monitor? BR Anders

PSU Change... Opinions?
Anderscn replied to AirbusGuy1207's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcAt least get a semimodular one. Makes cable management so much easier. And yes, get a 850 watt or higher, then you are prepared if one day P3D can use 2 GPU's Anders

Read the manual....and reap the benefits (Version 2.6)
I fully agree with you, as I also use 8xSGSS, that not necessary kills FPS all the time. And it looks very good! It is my impression that quite a few don't have the patience to set up DX10 properly, and then jump into P3D.. BR Anders

Prepar3d v2.4 low fps in vc, new gpu?
Anderscn replied to madsaint's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcIn GPU-z you can see what is the GPU load. If it goes to 100% and the CPU load in the Taskmanager at the same time goes down, then there is GPU bottleneck. And yes, 3 monitors on a 660 sound like that it could be the case. BR Anders

New computer
Anderscn replied to bradleyroebuck's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcIt is not only about FPS - in DX10, 20 is perfectly smooth, and 15 for shorter periods is ok. You should also consider more or less blurred landscapes, i.e texture filling, and this is where a multi core CPU makes a difference. I' m still on an old oc'ed 6-core AMD, and while FPS not is exceptional, I get a remarkably sharp non-blurred picture. And yes, all 6 core quite often are at 100% - not only during launch of sim or panning. BR Anders

Specs for new 'budget' FSX PC, suggestions for improvements?
I would still not consider anything less than a gtx770 with that CPU. Especially in EGLL heavily clouded! What size monitor do you have in mind? But never mind, we all have different requirements in terms of image quality. Another thing is the PSU - 430 watt. Appears a little weak.. BR Anders

Video driver crashes with Nividia 344.65
Anderscn replied to MarkW's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcI now see more people leaving NI, doing adjustments in Nvidia's own control panel. What is your experience - is it better than Inspector? I really need to do alot of things in Inspector to make the sim look right, especially in the AA department. But can it be done better in Nvidia Control Panel? BR Anders

Video driver crashes with Nividia 344.65
Anderscn replied to MarkW's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcMaybe that's why they released a new driver after a week.. I normally only use the driver itself, making adjustments with Inspector. Prefer simplicity. Best regards Anders

Video driver crashes with Nividia 344.65
Anderscn replied to MarkW's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etc344.65 work fine here in FSX DX10 using a GTX570. I' m no sure though, if there's any performance or visual gains. BR Anders

First observations with GTX 970 - puzzled
Anderscn replied to chatman's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcHow is your AA setting? Would be interested to see how the GTX 970/980 handle 8xSGSS in Inspector with DX10. BR, Anders

Upgrade to GTX980 or GTX780Ti from GTX760 / worth it?
Anderscn replied to diamondstar's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcHigh levels of AA seem to punish GPU's, even In FSX, and especially in DX10, REX clouds, modern addon VC's etc. I wouldn't ignore the importance of the GPU. BR Anders

What nvidia driver do you use for fsx
Anderscn replied to Bozdog's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcOh yes, longest flight is about 21 hours - no problem.Best regards Anders

What nvidia driver do you use for fsx
Anderscn replied to Bozdog's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcAnd now on 344.11. No problems after now 6 hours in a longhaul with CS777-200. Appears very smooth. Anders

Speed of DDR4 memory relative to DDR3.
Anderscn replied to Anderscn's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcThank you for the answer. Hmm, still split with myself which way to go: Haswell, Haswell-E or Broadwell.. And Nvidia GTX8xx. 2014 seems to be an exiting year hardware wise. Best regards Anders

Direct X 10 and Direct X 9, much confused.
Hi, The main issue with DX10 imo is AA, i.e. potentially shimmering treetops, fences and jagged lines around the aircraft. However this is almost eliminated completely using 8xSGSS in NI, at least to a level I can live with. So you really need a powerful GPU with DX10 that will not bottleneck the rest of your rig, and definately reduce REX clouds to 1024. Best Regards Anders

Stay with fsx?
Same here, I´ll stay with FSX for a while, as quite a few still claim AA issues with P3D v2.x. And I don´t have a Haswell-E plus Titan-Z to handle those clouds in this LM sim.. To the OP; no I don´t believe you will be able to run all those addon with this rig. However, if you still want splendid Image Quality, yet care less about Photo realistic airport and scenery spread out over 3 screens, you don´t need a super high end rig. I´m still on an OC´ed Phenom II X6 1100T CPU, 4 GB 1600/cl7 RAM and a GTX570, and I´m surprised how well it handles FSX/DX10 with FTX Global/Vector/Open LC and FSGlobal 2010 and REX E. I think some of the secret is in a thoroughly tweaked Windows 7 according to Nick N, avoid higher than 1024 textures (especially clouds), 5 cores to handle all the texture loading and reasonably fast RAM. So, one cheap option could be to buy a secondhand GTX 570/580 or a new 760 and reduce ambitions with fancy airports. After all, this is a flight simulator, so why care about accuracy of airport buildings? BR, Anders

Speed of DDR4 memory relative to DDR3.
Hi, I could be interested in going into the X99 platform in my next build. One question; Provided the same RAM Frequency and Cas-Latency, does 4-channel memory in DDR4 deliver twice as fast data delivery relative to DDR3 2-channel? Best Regards, Anders

Purchase
Yes, too sad it no longer is available, as I have enjoyed it fully with every update coming out. But I could also imagine quite a few who may have had unrealistic expectations to this 8 year old 32 bit application, and what could be fixable. Best regards Anders

What happen to those 780 Ti 6GB?
Anderscn replied to Clutch Cargo's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcIsn't 780ti 6gb = Titan Black ? BR Anders
