Splash Screen Crash (before main menu loads)

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I know there is a huge forum for this already, but I haven't seen my problem come up yet.

I have recently decided to reinstall FSX and do some flying, as I have been away from the game for awhile now.

My problem is, after reinstalling FSX gold edition (just the base, not acceleration yet) I can no longer get to the main menu. The program installed fine, it activated, but when I click on the icon (running in Admin mode) the splash screen loads, it builds scenery index files (seemingly) succesfully, then plays the first few notes of the menu music, then crashes with the following error report

Faulting application name: fsx.exe, version: 10.0.60905.0, time stamp: 0x44fd0a92
Faulting module name: nvdxgiwrap.dll, version: 8.17.12.6725, time stamp: 0x4d6494e5

In a previous installation i was having the standard menu issues which were fixed with the uiautomation core fix and I had been flying succesfully for some time before i uninstalled to save hard drive space.

I am running Win7 64bit with an Intel corei7 8gb ram and an NVIDIA GeForce 540M on a laptop, which i know may not be officially supported but considering it was running smoothly and with no graphical glitches last time I had it working I am unsure whether this is the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, not only because it renders all of my payware purchases a waste of money, but because I enjoy Flight Simming and would love to be able to sim again.

Cheers

Update your video card.  The version you have installed is 267.25.  Your 500 Series video card can handle the 310 series video card drivers.

Make sure the internal graphics processor is disabled and FSX is using the 540M card.  You can usually do this by going into your BIOS at startup and disabling the internal graphics or making sure your 540M is the highest priority.

The crash was caused by NVIDIA Corporation\CoProcManager\nvdxgiwrap.dll.  Hopefully an update of drivers will fix this problem.

Best regards,

Jim

Oh geez, I feel like such an idiot, how did I miss that?? Thanks Jim, drivers updated, base FSX is running smoothly during a test flight and i'm just re-installing Acceleration now.

Thanks, another few hours and everything will be back to how it should be heh

Glad you got it working again. Hopefully it will stay that way. Have fun flying!

Best regards,
Jim
