March 19, 201313 yr Hello everyone, To start, I am a total noob when it comes to proper set-up and performance in FSX. I want to use DX10 primarily because I see large benefits in FPS. I still feel like my performance is nowhere near the level I should be with my new computer. I know it is asking a lot, and I apologize if I am breaking any protocols, but could someone look at my config, and my system specs on my profile and offer a tweak? I am able to get UTX, GEX, and REX to run without issue, I see those take effect in game. I have tried to do the shader 3.0 fix, the flashing runway fix, and some other minor tweaking found via the tools online, but I never see any results changes when I go back into FSX so I must be doing something wrong. I do run everything on my system as administrator to avoid conflicts, and my FSX is not installed in the default location…I heard that might cause issues so I avoided that up front.
March 20, 201313 yr Did you install Steve's latest shader fix 3.2.2? It doesn't sound like you have it installed properly. The directions and files to install this program successful is in the How To document pinned at the top of this forum. There's also any excellent Software and Hardware Guide published by PaulJ that contains much of the same information in the How To document. He has pictures of the settings for your Video Card and sample settings for your FSX.cfg. If you cannot install the shader 3.2.2 fix, PaulJ has also provided a link to the whole file with all the changes. All you need to do is download it and place it in the appropriate place on your computer. I think the guides published by Paul will provide you with exactly what you need to get your FSX setup to run DX10. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! March 20, 201313 yr Author Thank you sir. I realized too late that there are a number of helpful links at the top of the forum. After playing around with some settings late in the evening, it appears as though the shader fix works, however the flashing runways are still there...not a huge deal, but the water effects are working as described. I will look at the threads you mentioned above and hopefully that will increase my performance.
March 20, 201313 yr If you still have flashing runways - the patch hasn't been applied, StarShade. Steve's patch fixed that issue right from day 1. 1). Delete the ShadersHLSL folder, plus the cached folders in your user AppData path, (below) C:\Users\{your username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX\ then 2). copy back your default ShadersHLSL folder, then 3). re-install the patch. To be honest I saw this once or twice in some early testing at OrbX KORS, but not since about v3.0.0. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
March 20, 201313 yr Author If you still have flashing runways - the patch hasn't been applied, StarShade I do, at altitude. I will do as you suggest and hopefully I see positive results. Thank you for responding to my thread.
