September 12, 200421 yr Gentlemen,If you are one of the 7749 happy FSDZigns L049 CONNIE captains, and have some problem in the flight with the CONSTELLATION, please report these to the
September 12, 200421 yr im not registered at the other forum and i've only flown the plane once (last night) so i cant recall all the details as per all of my settings, however the sim did crash while changing views to "flyby".My engine settings were in the green arc as far as MAP and RPM, and i think i was flying in the Pan Am livery, straight and level flight at the time. I must say that although this type of aircraft has never really been my style/choice of aircraft to fly...this might be the most beautifully rendered model ive ever seen in a simulator...freeware OR payware bar none, its THAT good looking. I couldnt be more impressed with your talent for artwork, simply an outstanding job....hope you get it all figured out regarding the crashes.BTW- running a P4 3.06 w/1024 dual channel PC3200 Memory and ATI 9800 Pro on a WinXP Pro SP2 platform. Thanks for the lovely contribution!Dave Kalin Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons
September 12, 200421 yr I've made about five flights with the connie and no crashes at all. I've got a Dell XPS P4 3.2 machine with 1gb of ram and the ATI 9800 Radeon Pro card. All drivers are up to date and the "heck" has been tweaked out of this sim. But it's running well.Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
September 12, 200421 yr Sorry, not registered in the other forum (I am in so many now), but I did experience one crash (froze FS2004 to a blank screen), when I changed views. That's all I rememeber. Was actually using it as a test to try CoursePlanner in "network" mode. Only happened once but only tried it once.Intel P4 2.8Ghz1.5Gig DDR 2700 RAM1/2 Terabyte Harddisk Space(3) 21" Trinitron MonitorsATI 9700 Pro AGP (128MB)Windows XP Pro
September 13, 200421 yr I too was having problems with the Connie when changing views. I've only been using the Pan Am Connie, and the aircraft textures would disappear when changing views after a few cycles in changing the views, and then the sim would give a fatal error. I figured it could be a texture problem so I looked in the folder and found 2 textures (black.bmp and cockpit green.bmp) saved in 24 bit format. I converted them to 16 bit format and it seems to have worked so far with no lockups after changing views many times. Thanks so much for this awesome aircraft, hopefully the problem doesn't go beyond this.~MikeIntel P4 2.4Ghz512 MB DDR 2700 RAM128MB ATI 9500 Pro Windows XP Home
September 13, 200421 yr The only problem I have encountered was when switching to spot view, computer went to a black screen and eventually to the desktop, this happened with the PA model. Had a another problem when using the TWA model. went to spot view to watch a landing replay and had a screen freeze up with a popping sound comming out of the speakers ,it eventually cleared itself though. I have never had any problem like this with any other AC. BTW- beautiful AC,I have a new favorite, hope you clear up the problem, Thankyou.Running win XP PRO ,1.24 GB ram, GF4, 2.4GB P4 ,500watt PSU.
September 13, 200421 yr Greetings!Milton Shupe sent me to this thread to look at your reports. I'm the guy responsible for most of the mayhem you are experiencing with my new baby.I appreciate any information you can give us and will keep an eye on this forum for more reports. Fortunately there is a large segment out there that seems to be having a "issue" free experience so far. At least they are not reporting problems so that is good....:-)Weve had a real hard time tracking theses issues down because we cant duplicate them on a consistant basis. We have set up three test beds to see if it was hardware related but that has not given us anything to hang our hat on, so to speak. We have had few crashes on the very marginal system but none at all on one, and only an occasional problem on another. We have come to the conclusion that it is not a resource issue. The machine with 256mb of ram crashed but not due to our product as it crashed with just about any of the advanced add-ons we tried to run.... We already have enough reports from various configurations to feel it is NOT resource related....We have had a few reports of it being associated with active virus protection and Norton disk management software. We have not been able to confirm that however..... This last report here of those two texture files is new and we will look at that today. Thanks for posting that! We hope it is something as simple as that....:-))) I want to say you all are wecome to come visit us at our own forum at fsdzigns.com but I will keep an eye her if that is an inconvenience. Again, thanks for your efforts and we will find the problem and get you on to flying our "Star."Best Regards,John Howard Whitedzignguy
September 13, 200421 yr John,First of all, let me thank you for your magnificent Connie. What a wonderful plane. The work you must have put into it surely is amazing.Unfortunately, I am among those having problems. So far I have tried three flights and all ended with problems. One time, during decent while slowly retarding power levels, the plane slowly started to die. First the flaps did not react any more. Well after a minute or so, the finally did what I set. Gear did not react att all. Then the engines died and when I started to restart them (I switched to FE panel), I got a solid lockup of my system. This is really exceptional on my system which works flawlessly about all of the time.On a second flight FS crashed and send me to the desktop a few seconds after switching to the FE panel. On a third flight my egines died on landing and could not be restarted once I retarded the power levels. All of this happened with the KLM version. My system:Pentium 4 2.80 GHz HT 800 MHzAsus P4P800 De luxe i865PERadeon 9800 Pro 128 Mb1 GB DDR SDRAM PC32002x 120 GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9, 7200 rpmSoundBlaster Audigy IISeveral coolersWindows XP Professional SP1Yesterday I installed XP SP2, but have not tried your Conny again.Best regards,Henri

September 16, 200421 yr Hi John,Congratulations on an excellent aircraft. After reading thoroughly the posts relating to CTD's on your forum and at AVSIM, I have to say that even though we may still be a minority there is definitelly something wrong here. I am sure most people experiencing the solid freeze are just lurking around and waiting for an answer to come up on these threads. That is why you may have the (wrong?) impression that this is an exceptional problem affecting a handfull of users of your wonderfull star. That being said I would like to share my own experience. As with most everyone else, I am having the solid freeze while descending always preceded by prop RPM flutter (RPM at 2000 and MAP at 20) and subsequent and massive engine failure. This is most definitelly related to poor flight and engine management on my part (not an easy plane to slow down) but as said, that should not crash your system. As with everyone else, my crash comes up when trying to restart the engines from the FE panel be it manually or by using the autostart simicon. However, I have noticed that if after engine shutoff I select another livery of the connie and then go back to my approach and restart the engines my computer does not freeze and the sim doesn't crash. Other people have ruled out panel issues. Maybe it has something to do with the textures or model? I would go for the former since the crash seems to happen when changing views towards rear right (FE panel) in order to restart engines. Here's an idea: Could it be the lack of a right wing view on the aircraft model? I run FS9 on an Athlon 3000+ system, 160GB HD, 512MB RAM and a TI4200 128MB 8X video card. I also have Norton antivirus which could very well be the culprit. Mind you, I always disable it before flight.Hope this helps and as someone alse aready said, it's all your fault for coming up with such a magnificent aircraft :-hah . Faced with this level of perfection and beauty people tend to get a bit uneasy when something doesn't work right. Please bare (sp?) with us.Mauricio
