FSX crashing

Featured Replies

I deownloaded an SR-71 Blackbird. When I picked a designated airport it would start up somewhere else, sometimes in trees. I got it flying at the proper airport twice, but the gauges didn't work. Got frustrated, so I went with an FSX plane that has worked before and my faverate airport and it crashed. At start up I get that pop up where its generating scenry etc. When it's done the plane shows up at a different place, then the pop up, then a different place. I deleted the SR-71 files, but that didn't help.

You need to download and run AppCrashView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html and copy and paste the report of the crash here.

You probably should rename your FSX.cfg to fsx.orig and restart FSX and let the config rebuild.  Do some minor mods to the config but try to leave the settings for scenery, etc., at the default.  Then try loading a flight again.

Best regards,

Jim

I couldn't find FSX.CFG, would it be simpler to uninstall FSX,then reinstall?

I couldn't find FSX.CFG, would it be simpler to uninstall FSX,then reinstall?

The fsx.cfg is located in a hidden folder. You have to change your computer settings to show hidden files - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/show-hidden-files.

Once you see the hidden files, open up Windows Explorer and go to User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX.

Of course, uninstalling/reinstalling FSX is an option too but unfortunately, the uninstall process leaves files and folders in the hidden folders so that, when you try to reinstall FSX, you could have problems with the files that were left over from the uninstall.  Here's an excellent guide for uninstalling/reinstalling FSX - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx.

Best regards,

Jim

I uninstalled FSX, ran CCcleaner turned off Windows Defender, then put disc. 1 in. Got a pop up that said; failed to intall 1628. Now what?

  • Author

I performed a system recovery. Got to nearly the end of disc.2 of FSX and it stopped. My first pop up read; #1722 Problem with Windows Installer Package. A problem run as part of the set up did not finish as expected.

Seconds later message no. two read; Feature Transfer Error. Error no. 1603, fatal error during installtion. Consult Windows Installer  Help.( Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.

Perhaps this link will help for the 1722 error - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/246562-error-1722-and-1603-during-flight-simulator-x-installation-help/.

For the 1628 error, go to this link - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910816.

Tried your last suggestion for no.1722 twice. Noticed while typing in the message read; not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.  Everytime I try the disc. no. two , it stops just seconds away from completion, when it starts to register the modules. Will I ever be able to play this sim again? This sim is so awsome, it's ahame that it has this flaw. Thanks so much for your help.

Just for the record, I have no service packs installed.Looked into a new installer, but was intimidated by the amount and not sure which one to get. I have Windows 8, 64 bit. Any ideas?

It appears you have Spyware installed (Solid Savings) and it caused the cause with your Internet Explorer.  Here's a link on how to remove it - http://www.spyware-techie.com/solid-savings-removal-guide.

The crash report you submitted in Post #3 shows that FSX did not crash but your Internet Explorer crashed probably because of the Spyware.

Try uninstalling FSX again through the Add/Remove Program.  If it is not there, then it has not installed successfully and you need to remove any leftover information regarding FSX from your computer before attempting to reinstall it again.  The link to the guide for uninstalling/reinstalling FSX in Post #5 provides where the leftover files might be located.  Once you have deleted those folders, you need to run a registry cleaner (freeware) like CCleaner.  I use Advanced System Pro 6 - http://www.iobit.com/.  It comes with an uninstaller program that not only uninstalls the program but it also looks for anything left over on your hard drive and in your registry.  It is freeware unless you want to use the advanced features.

I have no idea what you are talking about in your last post in regards to a new installer.  Do you mean a new DVD player?  Any of the latest DVD players will work well but make sure it is compatible with Windows 8 as this is a new operating system and they may not have drivers made for it yet.

You might also check out the AVSIM Software and Hardware Guide pinned at the top of the FSX forum.  It provides additional information in regards to setting up FSX and hardware guidelines.

Best regards,

Jim

I've tried everything in your last post and was successful in eliminating the spyware. Taking your advise to read the post on how to download FSX, I tried downloading FSX on My WD 1TB External Hard drive. Unfortunately it didn't work. It stopped at the very end again when it started to download modules. This sim has been downloaded before so I wouldn't think the disc. is damaged or corrupt. I have spent the last couple of days  trying to get this to work and was wondering if I should try another system recovery. That only takes me a couple of hours to get back on track. When I mentioned that I thought maybe I needed a new installer, I was referring to the computer installer. My computer is new so I know that part is fine.I know my idea is not a guarantee but what else might work?

The program that ensures a product is properly installed is the Microsoft Visuals C++ 2005.  It appears you are trying to download FSX from Microsoft and it is downloading completely?  I have the WD 2TB External HD.  That's a nice external HD!  FSX should be able to install from the WD external HD. I have all my addon programs located there and install the addon directly from that drive.  Where is Windows 8 installed?  On the External HD?  I know it is possible but maybe that's your issue.  Make sure Windows 8 is properly installed on the external HD - http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/how-to-install-and-boot-windows-on-an-external-usb-hard-drive.116114/.  Your system specs in MyPC indicates you only have the one external HD.  I'm sorry but I really don't have any further suggestions to help you fix your problem.

Best regards,

Jim
